Andrew Grey's "A Daring Ride" Is A New Beginning

In this, the second book in The Bullriders series, we take a trip back to the rodeo with Andrew Grey. This time around instead of seeing the end of a champion’s reign, we are seeing the beginning of a young cowboy’s career.

Simon Frizzell has been raised in a very large, very christian family, and all of his life he has been taught that homosexuality is a sin. So when he starts to realize he has those feelings, he works as hard as he can to hide them. His family is also against his chosen profession of being a bullrider. So he does what he has to do and sneaks off with his best friend to ride in the rodeos as often as he can. At one rodeo he not only finishes in second place but he meets prior champion bullrider Dante Rivers. This meeting opens up so many possibilities for Frizz and he has a lot of decisions to make, both personal and professional.

Jacky Douglas has been a rodeo fanatic for what seems like forever. His best friend Ryan even landed himself a real life cowboy and Jacky hopes one day he will find one for himself. That hope is realized when he meets Frizz, even if it looks as though it will be one night only. Sometimes fate works in mysterious ways, and Jacky and Frizz are thrown back together when Frizz starts working and training at Dante’s ranch. What Jacky doesn’t realize is he has to work around a lifetime of conditioning to help Simon realize he can have more than he ever imagined.

This is not only a very tender love story, including a first time experience for Simon, but a coming out story also. Simon’s parents have taught him that being homosexual is a sin of the flesh, that there is no chance for love in one of “those” types of relationships. These two men have to decide together if there is a chance for them to make things work and how they will handle all the hurdles that will be put in their way.

I know I have said it before, but it bears repeating, Andrew Grey has a wonderful writing style that puts you right in the scenes. When the characters are at the rodeo, you can almost feel the bulls’ breath on your neck and smell the testosterone on the air. One of the best things about this book is all these big tough cowboys showing their emotions and not being shy about their love for one another. The friendships and other relationships are tangible, and you just can’t help but root for them to overcome the obstacles in their way.

I am fully invested in this series and I can’t wait to see who is going to be featured in the next one. I would highly recommend this book if you love reading about cowboys, bull riders and two young men finding love in places they never thought were possible. It might be wild or it could be daring, but it will always be entertaining. This is one series you don’t want to miss.
