Blurb: Another hot guy from Greenwich Village is about to meet his match. That is, if he doesn’t mess things up…this time.
After the failure of his relationship with Jeremy, Andrew Jamieson threw himself into a routine his high powered job on Wall Street and workouts. After two years, however, he is unable to quell the longing in his heart for that special someone. Feeling hopeless, Andrew resigns himself to life of work and living alone in his pent house apartment. That is, until he’s fixed up with Peter, the local bartender in Jeremy’s favorite watering hole in the East Village. Peter is hot, sweet, sensitive and…masterful. Peter brings out a side of Andrew he never knew he had. And he can’t get enough. However, the same difficulties Andrew had with Jeremy threaten to rear up and ruin his chances with Peter. Will Andrew love Peter enough to let himself have the one guy in the world who could be meant for him?
Review: I read the first book in this series a while ago, and I was so excited to hear that Andrew was going to get his love story. When his previous relationship with Jeremy failed, Andrew believed that the blame fell entirely on his shoulders. After the breakup Andrew threw himself into work, work on himself and in his job. After two years of living this way, Jeremy gets it into his head that Andrew needs to find love. As it turns out, Jeremy has the perfect guy in mind.
Peter is a bartender at their local neighborhood bar, and he has a passing acquaintance with Jeremy and Andrew, as well as Jeremy’s boyfriend. The good thing is that Andrew is attracted to Peter, and there are definitely returned feelings.
With Peter and Andrew, nothing will be easy on their road to a happily ever after. Peter has aspirations but is too scared to go after what he really wants in his professional life. He wears a mask, of sorts, for the people around him, a mask of happiness and contentment. The real Peter is unfulfilled and lonely, but he isn’t sure how to fix that.
Andrew is more successful than ever at work, but he hasn’t been able to find anyone he connects with and is lonely. Seeing his ex, Jeremy, so happy doesn’t make that any easier, but he can’t give up the one connection he has with another person.
When Jeremy decides to set up Andrew and Peter, there is an instant attraction, but Andrew is cautious with Peter. No matter how cautious he tries to be, though, Andrew and Peter slowly find themselves in a relationship of sorts. It takes them a while to realize that their feelings have grown for one another, and it is difficult for Andrew to just let go and enjoy these new feelings.
Soon Andrew finds himself in a very familiar place with Peter, and he is worried that he may have ruined any chance he had with the man. It ends up that he just has to find a way to communicate with Peter and listen to what the man wants, this however isn’t Andrew’s best quality.
Eventually, as in all love stories, these two work things out, but it isn’t an easy journey. There is a lot of self exploration by both men, along with some realizations that put them on the road to healing.
I have to say that there was more inner dialogue with Andrew than I would normally like in a book, but he had a lot to figure out. It just seemed that he went around in circles most of the time, when I feel the conflict could have been resolved sooner. Otherwise, this was a fabulous read. I like the opposites attract story line, and I like the fact that even though he and Jeremy are former lovers, they were able to be adults and stay friends.
If you haven’t read the book previous in this series, Meant for Each Other, I would recommend you do that. There is a ton of information that applies to this story and makes it much more entertaining. I think D.H. Starr has another great book here, and I would highly recommend this one.
