Blurb: Since Hank Calder’s four-year-old niece Josie came to live with him, his life has been plenty dramatic, thank you, and the last thing he needs is a swishy, flaming twinkie to complicate things. But when Justin, the daycare worker at his gym, offers to do something incredibly nice for Hank – and for Josie – Hank is forced to reconsider. Justin may be flamboyant in his speech and gestures, but his heart and kindness are as rock steady and dependable as anyone, even Hank, could ask for. Can Hank trust in his dramatic “turkey in the snow” to offer his heart the joy he and Josie have never known?
Review: Our very own Lisa wrote a wonderful review of Turkey in the Snow couple of years ago, and I missed it…shame on me. But believe it or not, it’s been on my TBR shelf for a couple of years now, and I just now noticed that I had the ebook (so many books, so little time. LOL). But here was my chance to finally dive into it when I saw that Turkey in the Snow had come out in audio….Yes! I snagged it and called it MINE! Oooooh…and Lisa was right. It was a great story, made even better on audible.
Gomez Pugh is a new to me narrator and another one to add to my growing list of favorite Dreamspinner Press narrators I’m willing to listen to again and again. I love it when a narrator can bring to life and help me visualize the characters he’s portraying. With Amy Lane’s excellent writing style combining with Gomez Pugh’s narration, Hank and Justin’s story just jumped out at me, especially when Hank is telling why he hates drama queens by using the analogy of turkeys in the snow to make his point. Cute!
Yes, true to Amy’s way of writing there is some angst, but not so much that you feel you need to call 9-1-1 because your heart is about to give out due the stressors in her storyline. Yay! No hospital stays for me with this one.
Turkey in the Snow earns a high 5 Star rating and is well worth the listen, a highly recommend read, or listen, during the holidays.
