Review: Luther is a small town guy, and as a result of being afraid of coming out to his parents, he moves out and starts working on the oil fields. At the man camps, Luther discovers another environment where he doesn’t feel comfortable being open about his sexuality. Though he has sexual encounters, he doesn’t have feelings for another guy until he meets Erik, a hockey player who also works on the oil fields. Erik has experienced a hate crime against him, so they both know they have to hide their relationship. They treat what they have as casual, so when Luther start’s having feelings for Erik, he doesn’t know how to express what he feels.

I enjoyed this book, and I especially liked the setting. Since I had the distinct feeling of being on the oil fields, I’m sure the author did a lot of research in order to capture this life style. Both Luther and Erik are very appealing characters. However, since they are both closeted and both trying to play the tough guy role, true intimacy evades them. Luther cannot see love when it is staring him in the face.

I thought this book was sexy, and though I wasn’t very emotionally invested in the couple, I really liked the ending. I recommend Bent Arrow to anyone who enjoys M/M romance with coming out themes.
