Lane: Hi! Thank you for having me here today!

Lisa: It’s great to have you hear with us, Lane! And congratulations on the new book.

Will you tell us something no one else knows about your characters, Rand and Will?

LaneA Kind of Truth is book one in a new series about an aspiring rock star who falls for his nerdy guitar teacher. Though it’s easy to guess Rand and Will’s story is an “opposites attract” trope, it’s also about learning the balance of truth according to another person’s perspective. As for a secret tidbit…Rand loves junk food! His parents own a health food store in Baltimore. He grew up on kale, spinach and wheat germ so he generally goes for burgers and fries when he eats out. J Will is from a small town in Indiana where his family are founding members. He’s from “old” money, but like Rand, he’s happiest hanging out in family-style bistros or eating at home.

Lisa: Have you ever written something that made you cry?

MackLane: Yes! The first time I really made myself cry was when I was writing about Mack in The Wrong Man. Mack is an old Lab with diabetes, and at the end of the story he has a health scare. As some of my readers know, Mack is actually my yellow Lab. He’s been with our family since he was seven weeks old. He’s 14 now and in good shape but sadly, I know dogs don’t live forever. A couple scenes in that book were hard to write.

I wrote a scene in A Kind of Truth that brought me to tears and another in book two, too, which I recently submitted to the publisher. Either I’m turning into a crybaby, or my efforts to add emotional layers in my writing is working! Lol!

Here’s my Mack.

Lisa: Have you ever co-written with someone before?

Lane: No. I won’t completely rule it out, but it’s not something I’m in a hurry to do either. I’m a bit of a control freak! It’s why I love writing in the first place. I can be in my own little world and not have to worry about playing nicely with others. ;-)

Lisa: What’s the most difficult part of writing for you?

Lane: Editing. It’s the most crucial part too. I know a story shouldn’t have wasted words or wasted scenes, but it’s really hard to cut snappy dialogue. I try to cut and paste scenes I love elsewhere when I can, but it’s a lot of work. Lol!

Lisa: Okay, Lane, let’s end on a silly note. Name your four most important food groups.

Lane: Caffeine, carbs, chocolate &… veggies (got to eat real food too, right? :) )

A Kind of TruthBlurb: Rand O’Malley dreams of superstardom. He hopes to one day sing the blues like a rock god. Moving to New York City and hiring a new manager are steps to make his dreams a reality. But nothing moves as fast as Rand would like, and everyone has opinions, which include he keep certain pieces of himself quiet if he plans on making it in the Big Apple. Like his bisexuality.

Will Sanders is a gifted musician who dazzles Rand with his ability to coax gorgeous notes from an electric guitar one moment and play the piano like a professional the next. He’s a geek, but Rand isn’t concerned about Will’s pressed exterior clashing with his tattoos. His focus is music.  Yet there’s something about Will that makes Rand think there’s much more to the quiet college student than he lets on. As Rand’s dreams begin to materialize, he’s forced to reconsider his priorities and find his own kind of truth. One that might include Will.

Author BioLane Hayes is grateful to finally be doing what she loves best. Writing full-time!  It’s no secret Lane loves a good romance novel.  An avid reader from an early age, she has always been drawn to well-told love story with beautifully written characters.  These days she prefers the leading roles to both be men.  Lane discovered the M/M genre a few years ago and was instantly hooked.  Her debut novel was a 2013 Rainbow Award finalist and subsequent books have received Honorable Mentions in the 2014 and 2015 Rainbow Awards.  She loves red wine, chocolate and travel (in no particular order). Lane lives in Southern California with her amazing husband and the coolest yellow Lab ever in an almost empty nest.

  1. congrats on your newest release. I’m not normally one to read about music or bands myself (I do like having a soundtrack for when I’m reading however whether one originally came with the story or otherwise) ^_^.
