Review: The Right Words is my first Lane Hayes books. That being said, I have heard a lot of good things about this author, so when I saw this pop up for review, I grabbed it. This book is a sweet story of love, with a little depth to it, so it wasn’t too sugary sweet.

Luke is a damaged person. He has been in an abusive situation, but is pulling himself out of that and finally is starting to get back on his feet. Michael is a closeted soccer player who, up until the end of the story, I had a hard time reading. He was very closed off as a character. Outside of the best friend, I feel these two lived in a bit of a bubble until much later in the story. I also feel that Luke didn’t go through enough growth in the story. His inner monolog didn’t change much throughout.

Granted it wasn’t a brand new idea or even a unique telling of a story. It was solid and good. I prefer slow building romances to the insta-love, so I truly appreciated the friendship and the romance that developed in this story. Overall, I really like this book.

Narration: Michael Ferraiuolo is a newer narrator, but I have listened to him in the past. He did a solid telling of the story, and was diverse in his voices. He doesn’t really add anything to the story, but he didn’t take away from it either. I consider that a success.
