Blurb: Some stories just aren’t meant to be told.

From warzones to domestic scandals, Ulysses has built a career as a high-profile journalist at the expense of both family and relationships. Now his dogged pursuit of the truth has cost him credibility and job security. Discredited and depressed, he hunts for the story that will re-establish him as a trustworthy name in British journalism.

Stumbling across a string of mysterious murders that spans the breadth of the continent may prove a godsend. Yet catapulted into a world of spies and outstanding blood debts, Ulysses finds himself collaborating with elusive Robin, a man on the run whose past is as dark as the desires he awakens in Ulysses. Their chemistry is incendiary, breathtaking, unlike anything Ulysses has ever known. And chances are the fallout will prove proportional.

As Robin’s dealings land him in the crosshairs of the British intelligence services, Ulysses is faced with a choice that may cost him his life.

Dividers

Review: Ulysses Alexander Leach is a world renowned reporter. He’s hot on the trail of finding out why certain retirees of the spy world are dying, and their bodies disappearing. As Ulysses investigates these strange deaths across the globe, he is approached by Robin and is warned to leave it alone. The situation becomes SIS vs. spy—mistakes are made, someone has to pay, and Ulysses winds up in the middle of it.

Robin is a mystery Ulysses can’t figure out. Is Robin a spy, traitor, murderer, or none of the above? Between kidnappings and rendezvous with Robin, Ulysses has to make decisions that he feels will protect him. He eventually realizes he doesn’t know who he can trust, but Robin holds the key, and it’ll be used for leverage.

I really got caught up in this story set in the world of spies. Ulysses and Robin are well developed characters (as are their supporting cast), and their relationship held some surprises. I felt bad for Robin at times, being a spy and following through on orders, no longer wanting to be in that position, and then becoming the hunted.

Helena Maeve takes us on another thrilling ride in the Shadow Play series, from France to London to America. I appreciate that Ms. Maeve approached and handled this storyline with careful consideration and respect.
