Lisa: Hi, Avon, welcome to The Novel Approach. Let’s kick things off with the writing process. What genres do you enjoy writing in?

Avon: All of them! Within m/m I tend to write a lot of contemporary, but I also have a fantasy novel and a paranormal that I’m working on.

Lisa: What would say was the hardest part about writing Save of the Game?

Avon: The book was half-finished, and had been, for two years before I picked it back up again. Getting back into the mindset was initially a little difficult – finally I had to go through and do a lot of re-writing and editing before it started to flow together like I wanted.

Lisa: What did you enjoy most about writing the book?

Avon: I really loved writing Ethan Kennedy’s family, I won’t lie. Their interactions with Riley were some of my favorite parts to write. It was fun to have an established world to play in, too.

Lisa: Do you feel there’s a cultural value to writing? If so, what do you feel it is?

Avon: People need stories. It’s as simple as I that, I think.

Lisa: What’s your favorite positive saying?

Avon: I have a lot, but one of my favorites is a lyric from Victory by the Silent Comedy: “I hate being alive if it’s just to survive, I’d rather sing than be left making noise.”

Lisa: Thanks for being with us today, Avon, it’s been a pleasure!

Save of the GameSave of the Game (Scoring Chances: Book Two): After last season’s heartbreaking loss to his hockey team’s archrival, Jacksonville Sea Storm goalie Riley Hunter is ready to let go of the past and focus on a winning season. His new roommate, Ethan Kennedy, is a loud New Yorker with a passion for social justice that matches his role as the team’s enforcer. The quieter Riley is attracted to Ethan and has no idea what to do about it.

Ethan has no hesitations. As fearless as his position demands, he rushes into things without much thought for the consequences. Though they eventually warm to their passionate new bond, it doesn’t come without complications. While trying to financially help Ethan, Riley must hide his family’s wealth so as not to hurt Ethan’s immense pride. For their relationship to work, Ethan will need to learn when to keep the gloves on and let someone help him—and Riley will have to learn it’s okay to let someone past his defenses.

Avon GaleMeet the author: Avon Gale was once the mayor on Foursquare of Jazzercise and Lollicup, which should tell you all you need to know about her as a person. She likes road trips, rock concerts, drinking Kentucky bourbon and yelling at hockey. She’s a displaced southerner living in a liberal midwestern college town, and when she’s not writing you can find her at the salon, making her clients look and feel fabulous. She never gets tired of people and their stories — either real or the ones she makes up in her head.
