Blurb: When falling in love means risking everything, an angel must decide if losing his heart is worth it.

Lam is an Agnus Dei—or a messenger angel—who deals with mortals and the Four Horsemen. He’s helped them to find love and become mortal again, but he can’t seem to figure out his own relationship. Of course, it would be so much easier if he hadn’t fallen for Lucifer Daystar, the most infamous angel out there.

Lucifer Daystar has loved Lam since the moment he saw him. They’ve hidden their relationship since Lam isn’t supposed to fraternize with Day. He wishes things could be different, but he won’t risk Lam getting into trouble for being with him. Then one day Lam disappears and Day must search the world to find him.

By the time Day rescues him, will Lam have decided that loving a fallen angel isn’t worth the pain?

Review: If you have not read the first four books in the Four Horsemen series, starting with Pestilence, you really should go back and read through them in order. This is not one of those series that you can jump right into anywhere. While, yes, it is slightly possible to read this one without having read the others, I found that the author did not give as much backstory in Peace as with the previous books. This may be due to the fact that Lam is not one of the Horsemen and as such, his story picks up later, or because he and his partner are not human…I’m not sure. Whatever the reason, go back and read the first four in order to better appreciate Lam’s story.

Throughout the first four books, Lam has been the Agnus Dei, or messenger angel tasked with giving instructions to Death and helping out the Horsemen. He’s gotten pretty involved and has found himself pushing them towards the one human who can free them from their eternal task. Possible Spoiler (hover to reveal) Namely his lover, Lucifer Daystar.

It should be pretty obvious from that name who his lover is. As an angel, Lam isn’t supposed to be in contact with the most infamous fallen angel in history, but the two are drawn to each other. Lam knows he will be punished if he’s caught, but he doesn’t care. And when the inevitable happens, Lucifer (or Day as Lam calls him), is torn with grief and rage in his need to find Lam. He’s willing to destroy the heavenly realm if he must in order to bring back his lover.

I truly enjoyed this story and appreciated the author’s ability to combine Christian mythology and change it to suit the story needs. It was an interesting take on the fallen angel and his role in the present day. More interesting was the concept of “God” and “Judge” that is explained in great detail in this book. Also included were the Watchers—notably, Paisley and Sam—who are meant to observe and record but not get involved.

What marks this book different from the others, aside from not being directly about one of the Horsemen, was the lack of the author preaching about the use of condoms. I breathed a sigh of relief for that. In the first four books, this element is so heavily done—especially in Famine—that it took me out of the story. Condoms were never mentioned in this book, and with good reason. While I appreciate the author promoting safe sex, it can be overdone and become a PSA that pulls readers out of the story, and I can say with all honesty that I was not once removed from this book.

As a conclusion to the series, I was happy. Would I like more? Yes. Could it happen? Possibly. I could see something going on with Sam and one of the angels or even a human, but does it need to happen? No. This is a fascinating series that takes a common idea in Christian mythology (or religion) and turns it into something new while adding an m/m twist to it.
