Review: From the beginning premise to the satisfying ending, Megan Linden’s Leading Me Home had me hooked. I love paranormal stories because you get to visit worlds where the rules of everyday life don’t apply. While I typically enjoy the world building aspect of these stories, what struck me most in Leading Me Home was the author’s focus on smell and touch. Rather than focusing on the pack politics or the specific protocols which exist within each preternatural community, Ms. Linden centered the passion between our two protagonists on their chemical reaction to each other.
At first I thought the idea of the Alpha’s son bringing home his best friend under the guise of being his boyfriend, all for the purpose of avoiding the line of suitors his Alpha mother would rain upon him, was a bit of a convenient device to push the story forward. However, I was proven incredibly wrong, and quickly. This, without question, is a friend-to-lovers story. There’s no antagonist. There are no supreme misunderstandings or over-the-top dramas to overcome. Instead, it’s the perfect set of circumstances to let these two awesome men have the time and space to realize what they’d been too stupid to recognize before now…they are mates.
Typically, I would become frustrated when the process of discovery took as long as it did in this relatively short novel. And there was an aspect of impatience as I waited for the two of them to get it on. However, the anticipation of when and how they’d finally open up and be honest with themselves and each other kept me flipping through the pages at a rapid pace.
Once they finally connect, the fireworks explode. The scenes, while not as frequent as I’d like, were charged with emotion. And the major obstacle, the different worlds our lovers come from, is dealt with in a heartwarming and believable way. By the end of the book, you just know they have what it takes to love for a lifetime.
So, all in all, I’d give this a rating of high approval. Quick, fun, sexy, and oh so sweet!
