Lisa: Hi, Pat, welcome and thanks for making The Novel Approach a stop on your blog tour for When Adam Fell. I’m so glad you decided to choose Adam as your interviewee today, so let’s just go ahead and get started.
Adam de Leon, The Thug Chef
Pat: Adam, what impression do you make on people when they first meet you? How about after they’ve known you for a while?
Adam: Well, because of the scar on my face, women usually wince, and sometimes little kids point or run away from me. Most of them get over it once they get to know me. Some people think I’m arrogant or rude, but I figure if they don’t like to hear the truth, they should get out of the kitchen. You know what I mean? I don’t suffer fools gladly, and that throws some people off too. What can I say? I am who I am.
Pat: What’s your idea of a good marriage? Do you think that’ll happen in your life?
Adam: I think a good marriage is a partnership working for the good of the whole. Sure, sex is a big part for guys who don’t have to worry about things like kids. But really, this guy’s gonna be around 24/7, so I figure I’d better like him a whole hell of a lot if it’s gonna work out between us. Do I think it will happen to me? Huh. Oddly, yeah, I do.
Pat: What are you most proud of about your life?
Adam: I’m proud that I made it through childhood and am a functioning adult. I talk a lot about that in the book, what kind of childhood I had. I’m also proud that I can combine basic ingredients to give people unique eating experiences. I’m proud to be a damned good chef.
Pat: If you could spend the day with someone you admire (living or dead or imaginary), who would you pick?
Adam: Probably Escoffier because it would be a kick to talk about creating palates in people who have always been grab-it-and-run eaters. He’s the one who defined dining and made it something to sit and savor. I’d like to get his take on today’s fast food and see if he could come up with a way to make it a real dining experience.
Pat: What are you most afraid of?
Adam: I’m scared shitless that David will start using again, and I’ll have to make a tough decision about him and us. I’m okay as long as I have a sober David with me.
Lisa: Thanks again for stopping by, Pat, and for bringing Adam along with you.

Blurb: When his lover Jason’s drug addiction spiraled out of control, TV celebrity chef and cookbook author Adam de Leon walked away from him. Adam also abandoned his renowned restaurant in San Francisco to start a small bistro in the Sierra Foothills.
Five years later Adam is battling the conservative leaders of Stone Acres, California, to open a new restaurant in historic Old Town when Jason turns up on his doorstep—a recovered Jason, now going by the name David and claiming he’s overcome his addictions. What’s more, he begs Adam to take him back and says he’s ready for their happily ever after.
Adam has enough on his plate with problems plaguing the opening of his restaurant. And now he’s having a hard time deciding which to follow—his head or his heart.
