It seems that Saul’s fears are ungrounded until tragedy strikes in Roddy’s world. It’s then that the validity of Colin and Roddy’s new love is truly tested. Was their bond real, or did Roddy have another agenda he’d kept secret all along?
Review: It’s always fun to return to Hampton Road Club with Morticia Knight. She knows how to write fun characters, and despite there being several books, she has yet to reuse a plotline or characters. While old characters make appearances, each time she introduces new, unique people and continues to add to the secondary characters who have yet to have their own stories.
In this book, Colin has been waiting for his perfect Master. Having been approached several times, he’s rejected every man because he wants the right one. And someone closer to his age. But that’s a problem because most of the Masters at the club are older. As such, Ned and Aaron are sent out to see if they can find a potential match. When Roddy quite literally runs into them, they know they’ve found someone that, if not for Colin, will at least make a decent addition to the club. But when Colin and Roddy meet, they fall hard and fast.
I adored both Colin and Roddy because they brought something fresh to the series. As the youngest members of the club, they were just so fun and innocent. Colin has such a desire to please, he ends up driving everyone crazy. And Roddy is completely new to being a Master. He’s never even heard of it, and yet when it’s presented to him, he knows it’s exactly what he’s been looking for and eagerly snatches at the opportunity. Plus, when he meets the young, pretty Colin, who wants what Roddy does, he’s overjoyed.
While some people might be annoyed by Roddy’s constant use of the word darling when talking to Colin, I found it utterly adorable. He’s such a young, country boy at heart, and it’s clear in his language. He’s not stern like the other Masters, and he wants to please Colin as much as Colin wants to please him. In that way, these young bloods added a new vibe to the series that might seem rather old at times. The giddiness of both men wore off on me, and while I was reading about their exploits, I found myself completely engaged by their enthusiasm.
That said, I once again cannot wait for the next book. I’m still waiting for Javier’s book, as well as Theodore and Francesco, but now there’s the security guards and their boy, and that idea has me completely enthralled. Is it too much to ask for this series never to end?
If you haven’t read the other books in the series, I recommend going back to read them because they’re just wonderful if you like historical fiction and BDSM. That said, I don’t think it’s completely necessary to read them in order. While it helps, because there are new characters each time, you might miss some information on the other players, but it won’t be detrimental to you. I highly recommend this series!
