Excerpt: Gary shakes his head. His scowl turns into a grimace. “That Thomas guy just wants to get into your pants. Either he wants a sugar daddy or he wants you as a bottom-boy trophy. That’s all those people want, Danny.”
My eyebrows shoot up. I can’t believe he said that. “Those people? What are you talking about?”
Gary puffed his chest out. “Asians. They’re only in it for themselves.”
I’m shocked. I swear, for a brief second, I can’t feel my legs. My knees buckle and I plop back on the couch. I think I’m in shock, although I really shouldn’t be anymore. When we first started dating over a year ago, Gary was kind and considerate. Now, he just seems bitter.
Asians weren’t the only “kinds of people” with whom Gary had problems. I should be used to that kind of thinking. My dad, who is a high-level civil servant in the federal government, had similar views. Unlike Gary, my father was more subtle. His opinions about the “others”, including gay people, were sophisticated in their hidden meaning, but I recognized them, because I was one of them.
