Interview with Jefferson Lee
Welcome back to Holly Creek, new home of Jefferson Lee Davis. I gave readers a chance to ask their questions, and Jefferson answered them!
What was it like moving back to a small town after living in the city?
It wasn’t as weird as I thought it was going to be. Well, I mean, Holly Creek is weird, but that’s part of it’s charm. But everyone says I fit right in. I guess that means I’m weird too? Or something. But anyway, it wasn’t bad. I spent so many summers with Uncle Sherman that part of me felt like I was coming home.
What’s the one thing you miss most about living in Charlotte?
Well, that’s an easy one. My best friend Trent. He came to visit for the weekend for the Dogwood Festival, but it’s not the same. I’m working hard on getting him to come to Holly Creek too, but I can’t seem to find a job for him here. Oh, and I really miss the Indian place down the street from our old apartment. Trent and I used to have food delivered all the time. I can’t get that here. Well, sometimes I can con one of Gracie’s grandsons into delivering me something from the diner but I have to be careful not to abuse that privilege or she’ll kick my butt.
Jefferson, I’m a little bit smitten with Clover Crofton, I just want you to know how lucky you are to have her in your life! I too am from a small town. However mine wasn’t as cute, charming, And lovely as yours. Still, I can’t imagine moving back home. How are you coping with that? Does any part of you miss living in a bigger city?
Oh man, don’t let Clover know you’re taken with her charms. You do realize Trent is convinced she has some sort of voodoo power over him or something, right? If she finds out you’re smitten, she’ll have you doing manual labor in no time. Resist her! You’ve been warned! As to coping with the move, it’s not so bad. I mean, I have Uncle Sherman here and then there’s Zane. Kinda hard to miss living in Charlotte when he’s not there, you know? I still don’t know how he got me wrapped around his finger so fast.
On days when small town life becomes overwhelming (everybody tuned into the grape vine and all up in your business) do you ever think about how your life would have been different if you had taken the big job? What is your happy place you escape to when small town living becomes too much?
Wow. That’s a tough one. Okay, so first off, the grapevine thing isn’t so bad. I’ve kind of figured out how to work it to my advantage, if you know what I mean. Telephone, Telegraph, Tell-a-Selma Jane! It’s not so hard to work the system, as long as you know the key players. Um, not that I would ever work them to my advantage or anything *coughs* Now, as to my happy place, well, these days it’s time spent with Zane. God, when did I become that guy? But hey, it’s the truth. Besides, he doesn’t put up with my crap and (don’t tell Clover) but I need that because sometimes–not very often, but once in a while– I can be a little bit melodramatic. Not a lot. Just a smidge. But it happens. And it’s kinda hard to have one of my legendary freak outs when Zane is so calm about everything.
So, tell us the truth. Who is really your best friend, Clover or Trent?
You think I’m crazy enough to answer that? Clover is dangerous! But seriously, they’re both my best friend. I can’t pick between them. Although Zane would probably want me to pick Trent because we don’t seem to get in as much trouble as Clover and I do.
Oh dang! I’m late for a Holly Berry meeting! Clover will seriously kill me dead if I’m late. She wants to make me an honorary member but I’m resisting. Can you imagine? She’d really be able to boss me around all the time if they made me an official member of the group! And don’t forget to come by for the Rose Festival this summer! It’s not to be missed!

I’m already done reading Spring Fever and loved it. It was over too quickly. I laughed so hard, my son kept looking at me funny. Can’t wait for the next one.
