Review: The LD50 of Memories is a story in the ongoing world of Division P, which includes several novella series involving these same characters. While I own the other stories, I had not read them before this and found that this story works as a standalone read.

Navy pilot, Cam, and surgeon, Mason, are working out the details in their life together, and adjusting to taking care of their infant daughter. The childcare situation isn’t easy, and their demanding careers are pulling them in a lot of directions. Cam is asked to assist with a Division P assignment which will use his psychic ability as a finder to help with locating the young victims of a serial killer. Mason is worried because Cam has been experiencing some psychic shocks lately, and Mason has had to use his own psychic healing ability to help.

While on this assignment, Cam does a great job of locating the victims, but the final task nearly kills him. After the episode is over, the danger has not passed, and Mason once again has to intervene to hopefully help Cam get past the lingering consequences of his experience. Other members of Division P are also called in, but the treatment seems to affect Cam’s memories of not only the assignment but potentially the rest of his life, and could impact his career as well. It’s definitely a scary event, but it brings together a lot of resources and cements even further the bond between Mason and Cam.

I have always enjoyed A.R. Moler’s writing so when this story came up for review, I jumped on it. I also loved the title! Anybody who knows what LD50 means would. ;) I’ve read a couple of the other standalones in this series and really liked them—kind of an X-Files vibe to them in some ways. I’m now determined to go back and read Cam and Mason’s story from the beginning with the Hell Dogs Squadron and Seeking the Balance series. The LD50 of Memories is definitely recommended, especially for those who like their stories with a bit of a psychic or paranormal twist.
