A Day in the Life…
Of the With A Kick kitchen.
But Clare, the poor hapless author, thinks she may not be as welcome as she’d hoped…
Patrick: Customers can’t come in here!
Lee: Don’t shout. The poor girl’s just trying to get some background for her blog tour.
Patrick: Blog tour?
Lee: Jesus, Patrick, don’t look like it’s some kind of tropical disease. It’s something authors do to promote the release of their book.
Patrick: I’m sure.
Lee: Now you’ve got that biting on a sour lemon look, instead. It’s okay, I’ll see to it. I said Clare could look around the kitchen and watch us at work. Patrick, close your mouth, you’ll swallow ice crystals. We won’t get in your way. Just follow me, Clare, and stay close. Yes, I know there’s not much room to manoeuvre, even though the new boiler is so much more space efficient. Um. Yes, sorry about that. Most of us know to avoid the chocolate while it’s melting. Yes, of course the stains will come out. Eventually. Now, this is where Patrick stores the special cream mixture –
Patrick: Apron.
Lee: Sorry?
Patrick: She must wear an apron. And gloves. And hat.
Lee: Okay. I have that in hand, too. No, Clare, you look lovely in it. No, you’re right, maybe a photo wouldn’t be appropriate at the moment. This is a work environment you see. Maybe you’d rather interview me out in the café area over a cup of coffee –?
Patrick: Look out!
Lee: Patrick, I asked you to be more careful with that ladle. You’re fine, Clare. No, the skin’s not broken. Honestly. He can be a bit volatile while he cooks, you see. What else would you like to see? No, of course I’m not rushing you. It’s just that when the mixer gets going, we won’t be able to hear much anyway, and breathing in the freezer air can lead to –
Patrick: Where’s she going?
Lee: Uh, brain freeze. Yes, like I said. No, your nose will come back to life in a minute. Let’s go and have hot chocolate, shall we? Yes, excellent idea. I have some promotional photos I can email you instead.
Patrick: Don’t sit down there!
Lee: No – oh God. You sat down there.
*a quiet moment of shock*
Lee: (sighs quietly) Maybe two cups of hot chocolate are in order.
Clare says (over a cup of hot chocolate and a strong brandy): Come and visit With A Kick in any of the 8 titles to date and discover the creation of each new witty and delicious flavour – and without any Health and Safety issues LOL.

About the Book
TITLE: Double Scoop
SERIES: With a Kick: Book Eight
AUTHOR: Clare London
PUBLISHER: Jocular Press
COVER ARTIST: Lou Harper
LENGTH: 45,000 words
BLURB: A sudden disaster strikes everyone’s favourite ice cream shop, With A Kick. Not only does it threaten the livelihood of its owner, Patrick, but also his loyal assistant Lee. The last thing in the world Patrick would ever want to do is hurt Lee, either physically or emotionally. Why would he? He’s been falling in love with Lee since the day Lee invited himself into the shop’s business and Patrick’s life. But familiar and deeply-held insecurities hold Patrick back – he’s too gruff for Lee, too old, and his labour-of-love business is never going to make him rich.
Lee is weary of trying to make Patrick see how much he admires and cares for him. To Lee, it’s a very straightforward situation. Patrick is sexy, Patrick is smart, Patrick needs Lee’s help – and Lee needs Patrick in his life as more than a boss. All the characteristics Patrick finds inhibiting, Lee finds attractive. However, if Patrick’s apparently never going to make a move on Lee, how long should Lee wait to make his own move? Maybe Patrick thinks Lee is too clingy, too immature. Maybe Lee should give up his romantic hopes completely. If, that is, he can bear to do it.
The disaster at the shop brings them a whole new opportunity to work – and love – together to make a go of things. They’ve both got to look at each other in a whole new way. With the help of all their With A Kick friends, this could be make or break for the reluctant couple!

About the Author
Clare took the pen name London from the city where she lives, loves, and writes. A lone, brave female in a frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home, she juggles her writing with the weekly wash, waiting for the far distant day when she can afford to give up her day job as an accountant. She’s written in many genres and across many settings, with novels and short stories published both online and in print. She says she likes variety in her writing while friends say she’s just fickle, but as long as both theories spawn good fiction, she’s happy. Most of her work features male/male romance and drama with a healthy serving of physical passion, as she enjoys both reading and writing about strong, sympathetic and sexy characters.
Clare currently has several novels sulking at that tricky chapter 3 stage and plenty of other projects in mind . . . she just has to find out where she left them in that frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home.
All the details and free fiction are available at her website. Visit her today and say hello!
