Blurb: Pretending to date the guy he has a crush on? Kevin’s sure he’s heading for a disaster. A broken heart, at least.

Kevin has been a lone wolf almost his entire life and he’s comfortable with that. Now that he no longer works for the guy he hated, Kevin has only one problem—his crush on his neighbor and best friend.

Taylor is the Alpha’s Son, the heir to the Harrington Pack. He left his hometown and moved to San Francisco as a rite of passage, but it was always temporary, since his place is in Harrington Hills with his pack. Now Taylor is heading back home for a wedding and since his mother is threatening to set him up if he comes alone, he needs a date. Asking Kevin to be his pretend boyfriend sounds like a perfect solution.

What happens when they arrive in Harrington Hills and learn to see each other in a different light? With their relationship changing, can they drop the act and realize that what they have is real?

Review: Taylor (Alpha Heir to Harrington Hills Pack) and Kevin (lone-wolf) are best friends. Taylor is tired of his mother trying to set him up, so Taylor concocts a plan to have Kevin pose as his date for a pack wedding and with a little pleading, manages to get Kevin to agree. Problem is, Kevin has had a thing for Taylor for a while, and he just knows it’s going to cause problems and more than likely going to end up with a broken heart—because he isn’t pretending to care for Taylor that way.

Leading Me Home was a fairly quick read and I enjoyed the plot. The friends-to-lovers and fake dating are not necessarily new, but the characters were written in a different way than they usually are in these types of stories (at least those that I have read). There was no ex to make jealous, or a family they are trying to piss off by taking someone the character knows his family will hate. The pack was accepting of LGBTQ+, as the Mom A and Mom B (Taylor’s mothers) are lesbians. There were no battles of homophobia or being accepted for their choice in partner. The characters were all likeable. I also enjoyed the way scenting is portrayed; it was done in a way where there are different levels and meanings, and played a fairly large role in the story.

This story was low in angst and just a heart-warming tale of two best friends who grow closer, one who already knows his feelings and is struggling to not let it show, while the other discovers he has feelings he hadn’t realized.

The conflict was quick and resolved without too much problem; and honestly, it didn’t really feel like much of a conflict. More like just a quarrel that any couple would have and that any couple would continue to have. Especially ones that have had such a quick alteration in their status from friends to lovers, and dealing with the confusion involved as the relationship evolves.

There were times the story fell a little flat, in my opinion. The story starts with Taylor immediately convincing Kevin to go with him and be his pretend date. But we don’t get much of a feel for their backstories individually and as friends. Eventually, because the book takes place in Taylor’s hometown, we learn his a little more. However, Kevin’s is only touched upon. I felt at times the characters weren’t fleshed out enough for me. I would have liked to see a little more buildup on page and more time getting to know the MCs’ personalities.

All in all, I enjoyed the story. It was an entertaining read that wasn’t riddled with complications and angst, and perfect for a lazy day where you just want to unwind with something sweet.
