Review: It’s with great sadness, in more ways than one, that I finally realize Crash & Burn is the final installment of the Cut & Run series.
I remember when I first became hooked on Ty and Zane. I would be waiting on pins and needles, anticipating the next book. Especially when Abigail Roux would throw out teasers from the next book. I’d download that book ASAP and would just luxuriate in my chair until I finished the final chapter, content that I was in a happy place. That is, until the final two stories. Those two sat on my shelves until the audiobooks came out, mainly because I was afraid to read them. I’d heard from friends that the books had lost the charm I’d come to love from this series. So, with trepidation I started with Ball & Chain and was thinking that those who’d read it before me must have been expecting too much—I did enjoy that one with all the twists and turns and with the added bonus of Ty asking Zane to marry him.
So here’s the final, Crash & Burn,, where Ty and Zane tie the knot. Talk about being majorly disappointed. I was expecting a stag party, friends and family and a major send off towards a romantic honeymoon, and yes, some bells and whistles with bullets and explosions. What I got, fairly early into the story, was a chapter on Ty and Zane’s quick marriage with the Justice of the Peace, with only Deuce and his wife as witnesses. Then, it turned into a free-for-all with everyone running for their lives. I guess that’s why it’s titled Crash & Burn.
Sure, there were a couple of surprises—which I won’t go into detail about except to say that I was upset when another secondary character that I’d liked from a previous book was killed. That’s what killed it for me. It no longer was romance but an espionage story with some way over-the-top scenarios. I kind of wished that I had passed on this one.
But, if you like explosions, bullets, betrayal, twists and turns, then by all means try it on audio. I’m giving Crash & Burn a 3 star rating because J.F. Harding did a great job narrating, and it’s not his fault I didn’t like how this series ended.
