Blurb: It isn’t true love until someone gets hurt.
Sam’s a new man. Yes, he’s still too tall, too skinny, too dorky, too gay, and has that unfortunate addiction to romance novels, but he’s wised up. His One True Love is certainly still out there, but he knows now that real life is nothing like fiction. He’s cultivated the necessary fortitude to say “no” to the next Mr. Wrong, no matter how hot, exciting, and/or erotic-novel-worthy he may be.
Until he meets Ian.
Ian’s a new man. He’s pain-free, has escaped the job he hated and the family who stifled him, and is now—possibly—ready to dip his toe into the sea of relationships. He’s going to be cautious, though, maybe start with someone who knows the score and isn’t looking for anything too complicated. Someone with experience and simple needs that largely revolve around the bedroom.
Until he meets Sam.
Sam’s convinced that Ian is no one’s Mr. Right. Ian’s sure that Sam isn’t his type. They can’t both be wrong . . . can they?
Review: I think Too Stupid to Live is my favorite book by Anne Tenino, so far. And now that it’s out on audio…sighs.
I made a connection with Sam almost immediately, especially when he got busted with a romance novel by Ian. I know those embarrassing moments when someone asks me, “Whatcha reading?” Of course, now that I’m older I tend to answer that question with “smut,” and then watch them get all embarrassed. Hehe. I loved how, during his relationship with Ian, Sam used the characteristics of a romance plotline to describe where he was at with Ian. Sam may not have had a high opinion of himself, but he was someone I would love to get to know more. When Sam first hooks up with Ian, he knows that Ian is a bad idea, but his search for true love will come later, after some of the lust he feels for Ian slacks off—so cute and such a sweetie!
Now, Ian started off being a jerk, but it didn’t take long for me to understand his character and start to like him. Ian has been in the closet, but now he’s working his way out with the help of a new job and therapist. When he first hooks up with Sam, it starts off as a one-night-stand, which eventually turns into “just sex,” which turns into something more. It was so adorable how Ian slowly started to fall for Sam.
As for Too Stupid to Live, I loved this story when I read it a while back, but now that it’s on audio, I’ve fallen even more in love with it. Tobias Silversmith did an excellent job at narrating, and I found it even more humorous since I got more of the subtle humor I’d missed the first time around. I had a lot of fun rereading this one.
I definitely recommended this book for anyone in the mood for cute Highlanders, humor and romance. I’m so gonna break down and go on an Anne Tenino reading marathon.
