Review: BA Tortuga treats us to four short stories about mud, movies, bullets, and bulls. They’re steamy, naughty, humorous and, of course, told in the unique style the author always brings with her cowboys. The stories are also about not having to hide who you are anymore, finally getting to be with who you love, and having a future together. This collection is not suspenseful or action packed, but there’s maybe a wee bit of drama along with lots of fun.

Mud on the Tires: There wasn’t just mud on the tires but mud on a nekkid Lee, who’s trying to get a heifer out of said mud when Collin just happens to drive up on him.
Collin is new to town and is looking for some land to buy when he happens upon a naked cowboy in a very precarious position. Besides these two hot cowboys, there’s dog issues too—Lady belongs to Collin, and Lee has Pie and Ring. Oh no! Drama to be had, Lady is pregnant!

Just Like in the Movies: Dooley Robbins is all cowboy. He’s a handler for the horses on movie sets and needless to say, the movie people tend to get on his nerves. Tyler Garrison is an up and coming movie star. yler likes Dooley and gets an evening ride with him. They hit it off right away, but the movie business takes a toll on them. Because of their crazy work schedules, they always seem to be in different places and have to sneak around and travel long distances just to get time with each other. Nine years later, they’re still stealing time and have to come to a decision about their relationship and their future.

Ricochet: Holt’s come to realize his relationship with Dave isn’t working anymore. He’s trying to make the best of an awkward situation, and leave peacefully. Slapped, shot, hand in a cast, facial wound, questioned by police—will Holt’s situation get any worse? Thank goodness for Momma. She’s got Teague to help Holt make it back home. Holt and Teague have been friends for years, but Teague has been keeping a secret. The journey home starts to reveal what both men have seemed to overlook.

No Bull: Joss is in the hospital again. Riding the bulls at the rodeo has put him there more than once, but this time it’s really bad. Mackey and Joss have been rodeo buddies for a while, and are always watching out for one another. Mackey’s determined to take care of Joss while he’s recuperating. They head to the old ranch where Mackey’s staying, and they start getting familiar with each other. Mackey knows he wants to retire, and he already has a plan. He’s hoping with all his heart that Joss will a big part of that plan.

I was going to try to pick a favorite, but I liked them all.
