Blurb: Leo Barratt hadn’t written his bucket list, but he was pretty sure there were several things he wouldn’t have put on it. Like… waking up to a Dear John letter from his fiancé, Eric, the day before their wedding… or going on his honeymoon – alone.
But, under the strict instructions of his mother, he found himself in Venice at Bauta, the beautiful bed and breakfast where he’d supposed to have started off married life. Instead, he planned to spend three weeks inside his room and wait for the pain to go away.
Or at least that’s what he thought…
Bauta, was run by Matteo Leghissa and his mother, Luana. Used to getting his own way, Matteo refused to allow Leo to wallow in self-pity and appointed himself as Leo’s official guide.
Apparently, falling in love with a beautiful stranger wasn’t on Leo’s bucket list either but…..

Review: When Leo discovers the note on his pillow, he can’t even bring himself to read it because he knows it’s not going to be good news especially since a week earlier his fiancée had left suddenly only to reappear and promise it was all due to cold feet—well, this time he was walking out the door and out of Leo’s life. Thanks to his family, the wedding was cancelled in record time, and Leo’s mother forced him on the plane to Venice and…his honeymoon that wasn’t meant to be.
Despite being a man who loved his life planned and organized, Leo can barely read a street map, and is soon hopelessly lost when a handsome stranger offers to be his guide. It ends up this stranger, Matteo, is also the son of the woman who owns the very place Leo has booked for his lost honeymoon.
After allowing Leo three days to wallow, Matteo whisks him away to see the sights of beautiful Venice. Along the way, an attraction begins to grow between the two men but then a surprise visitor threatens to ruin it all, and Matteo will not fight for Leo, leaving him no choice but to take a leap of faith and hope it all turns out for the best.
Lisa Worrall is a new author for me, and I must say that her whimsical storytelling was just what I needed to read. If you are looking for some angst-ridden tome, complete with regret and sadness, then you are looking down the wrong alley. Solo Honeymoon is light, sweet and determined to be hopeful despite the subject matter—being jilted at the altar. Leo appeals because he moves forward even though he would like to have a huge pity party for himself. His internal dialogue replete with stern cautioning not to get involved with his host, Matteo, and a continual reminder that his ex was a cheating bastard, keeps this character from becoming pitiable and weak. Leo can eventually laugh at himself and accept that the circumstances leading up to his being left behind were long in the making and not just a one off deal. This makes him so incredibly human and likeable.
Matteo is a gentle man who will not take no for an answer, but hides a deeply painful secret of his own, and when Leo suddenly becomes ill and pushes Matteo to confide in him, this story takes a sharp turn from companionship to tentative beginnings of love for both men. They are exactly what the other needed and when the story swerves again, and that is nearly lost, you realize how slowly yet thoughtfully this author created a relationship that had all the right elements to it.
Solo Honeymoon dares to ask the question, why not? Why not live and love again even when the pain is still fresh? It is a sweet and satisfying romance that will leave you smiling.
