Blurb: Jonathan Banks and Peter Giles have worked together for five years, business partners in a planning firm that bears both their names. Now Jonathan’s boyfriend is out of the picture, and he’d love nothing more than for Peter to ask him out again, but he knows his partner all too well. Peter doesn’t take rejection easily. He likes flirting with Jonathan, sure, but doesn’t want to take the chance of getting turned down a second time. He’s satisfied with the way their friendship is, and fears anything more intimate might ruin what they already have.

But everything both men have planned and worked for together is threatened on a cold, wintry evening when Peter’s car won’t start and Jonathan has to give him a lift home. Can the two friends move past their own fears and trepidations, and begin to build a future together as partners outside the office?

Review: Jonathan and Peter have been business partners for five years now. Jonathan was involved with someone when he and Peter started working together, and so their relationship was strictly business. It has evolved into a close friendship over the years; although not that close, apparently, since Peter had no idea that Jonathan had split with his boyfriend.

One night Peter’s car won’t start, so Jonathan offers him a ride home. They go to dinner first, and Jonathan flirts a bit with Peter, but when Jonathan drops him off and he’s sure Peter is going to make a move, nothing happens. So, Jonathan leaves, but then a crisis ensues that seems like it might bring them closer together. Again, nothing really happens. When they finally do have dinner together again, there is a lot of hemming and hawing and indecision.

I’ve struggled with how to rate this story, because I liked the premise and the writing. I found the characters to be rather charming. I just felt like I got half the story. It’s a beginning rather than a fully developed story, not even an HFN really. What is on the page is well written; it just didn’t feel finished for me. Maybe there will be a second story. If there is, I’ll definitely read it because I’d like to know what happens between these two.
