Blurb: Foster dreams of getting away, but after his father’s death, he has to take over the family dairy farm. It soon becomes clear his father hasn’t been doing the best job of running it, so not only does Foster need to take over the day-to-day operations, he also needs to find new ways of bringing in revenue.

Javi has no time to dream. He and his family are migrant workers, and daily survival is a struggle, so they travel to anywhere they can get work. When they arrive in their old van, Foster arranges for Javi to help him on the farm.

To Javi’s surprise, Foster listens to his ideas and actually puts them into action. Over days that turn into weeks, they grow to like and then care for each other, but they come from two very different worlds, and they both have responsibilities to their families that neither can walk away from. Is it possible for them to discover a dream they can share? Perhaps they can plant their own and nurture it together to see it grow, if their different backgrounds don’t separate them forever.

Dividers

Review: Andrew Grey is an author with so many stories told, and so many more to come (I hope). He’s a writer who pulls you into stories that feel like a pair of warm, dry socks on a cold snowy day. And, just when you are wrapped up tight and all parts of your body are cozy, he hits you over the head with a social cause, a problem that we all need to help fix, or at least recognize. I love it!

Along with a social issue, Andrew Grey and Derrick McClain tell us a love story with a few twists and turns. This particular love story is about two men who at first I thought stood no chance of ever connecting, so many obstacles and then learning Javi’s story, I really thought there was no way. Javi feels he must help his family at the cost of his own happiness, and Foster also has the same obligation. Both men know that family comes first. But after reading well over fifty of Andrew Grey’s books, I knew he would find a way to bring these two together—not going to give away how he does it; just have faith that in an Andrew Grey book, love wins.

Looking over Derrick McClain’s repertoire, he has narrated quite a few books in my beloved genre. He’s quite the professional and it shows in his body of work and in this audio. The characters each have their own voice, and his accents for Javi and his family are pretty good. It’s an audio worth getting. It will raise your awareness of migrant workers and family farms.
