Blurb: Several months ago Thorne hired Riley as an escort. They fell hard for each other and ultimately made their relationship personal rather than professional. Every moment they spend in bed is pure bliss, but good sex can’t solve all their problems as they struggle to make things work between them. Thorne convinces Riley to move in with him, but their differences in age and income weigh more heavily on Riley once they share a home.
If that weren’t enough, culinary school is turning out to be a disappointment for Riley rather than a dream come true, and he’s considering the daunting prospect of starting his own business. Thorne wants to swoop in and fix everything, but Riley keeps refusing Thorne’s money or advice, feeling like he’s losing control over his own life.
Thorne and Riley will have to rely on their love for each other to help them find the balance between independence and entanglement.
Review: Oh my, these men are hot. This is book two in the Thorne and Dash series, and it was even better than the first, Professional Distance, but not by much! I loved the dynamic between these two men. A dominant professional man outside the bedroom (Thorne) who needs to give up control in the bedroom, and a young former rent boy (Riley Dashwood) who loves taking control in the bedroom but needs help outside of it. What started as a scheduled and paid for interaction in book one has now become so much more between these two men. There is a push/pull dynamic between these guys, and Sylvia Violet has written it beautifully.
Thorne and Riley create an interesting dichotomy with the opposing dominant/submissive sides to their personalities. The sparks fly off the page and as such, it makes the story whisk by when you are reading it. Since this is book two, it would be helpful—like, really helpful and enjoyable but not absolutely necessary—to read book one. The dynamic is established there, where Thorne and Riley meet, continue meeting, and decide there may be more between them and become a couple. Book two picks up some weeks later when the growing pains have set in and Thorne wants Riley to move in with him. These books are written in the dual POV, and it is extremely helpful to know what each man is thinking as the story progresses, especially since this book is all about the differences between them and how they approach the hardships they face as a couple. In book one, we get the falling in love story; book two is real life and questions how two such strong personalities make things work on a regular basis when neither is very good at communicating how they feel outside of the physical.
Thorne will never be considered a submissive man outside of the bedroom and he stays true to this dynamic in how he longs to take over Riley’s life and make things easier for him. Riley is still getting his feet underneath him, giving up the escort business and going to culinary school, and he fiercely holds on to his independence from Thorne. It is important to him to make his own way in the world and not use Thorne’s money or his contacts. However, his pride is a stumbling block in his life, and learning to accept help is hard for him. The intensity between the two men is continued in this book, and the ending was a joy to read. I truly enjoyed revisiting the relationship in Personal Entanglement, and look forward to book three in the series. I also cannot wait for more on Marc and Darius’ story. So much scorching hotness to look forward to!
