Tommy
This is stupid. Really fucking stupid, but goddamn, I just need something. To feel something that’s not pain or loneliness. That’s not confusion or anger or guilt. Zack needs the same. I see it in him, feel it in him.
We both need this.
To fuck.
Release.
To feel something good.
He stumbles backward as I move forward. He pushes his tongue past my lips, and then I take a turn tasting.
I run my hands down his chest, feel his hard muscles twist and turn beneath my touch.
He has a nice body. The kind I like when I’m with another man, because when I fuck a guy, I don’t want to be soft about it.
I kiss my way down his neck. Taste soap on his skin, making me wonder where he showered today. If he’s still in his apartment somehow or staying with a friend or maybe at a shelter.
My gut rolls at the last thought.
Zack grabs my face roughly, pulls my lips back to his. There’s a sting when he nips me and then it’s him pushing against me, turning so he can slam my back into the wall. A sharp pain pierces me, maybe grounds me, from where the doorknob accidentally shoves into my side.
I grab hold of his sides, dig my fingers into his hips as he nips at my lip again. I moan, enjoying the sting. Zack leans back, a spark igniting in his crisp blue eyes. They’re confident here, I notice. He’s not looking away or reaching for his hat. Here, he knows who he is and what he wants and damned if that doesn’t make my dick leak.
I grab his hand. Push it down on my cock. “You have me so fucking hard. Take me out. Touch me.”
Zack gets a gleam in his eyes, and I realize we’re both going to want some kind of control here. “You first. Get on your knees for me.” His expression gets softer when he adds, “We can make each other forget.”
That’s what all this is about. Making each other forget. Giving each other a reprieve from the pain we’re in—pain that stems further than Rob. But he’s the connection, the thread tying us together. My brother whose apartment I’m going to fuck a man in who was a part of my brother’s life. The guilt inside me builds—pressure I’m not sure I can contain.
Zack’s body language changes. Like he senses my uneasiness about all this. “Don’t do that. Don’t let me lose you. I can make you feel good. Let me make you feel good,” he pleads, and I believe he can. He still doesn’t go for my dick. Doesn’t offer to blow me even though he said he wants to make me feel good, and it makes me wonder how he knows, how he realizes I’m a bossy motherfucker and I like to be rough but sometimes I like to give up control too.
He pushes me down to my knees, and I go willingly.

Blurb: Zack lost his job, his apartment, and his hope, which is why he ends up on the roof of a high rise, certain that one final step will solve his problems. But a mysterious stranger named Rob happens to be on the roof that night too. He talks Zack down, convincing him there’s still hope left in the world. Zack thinks maybe he’s right, which is why he’s shocked when he turns on the news the next morning to find out Rob jumped himself. Disturbed and confused, he searches for answers, starting with Rob’s brother Tommy Rayburn.
It’s been Tommy’s job to take care of his brother since they were kids, taking the blows from their father so Rob wouldn’t have to. Tommy thought he could protect him, even if it meant carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. Considering Rob threw himself off a building, he obviously couldn’t.
Then he meets Zack, a friend of Rob’s who’s suspiciously evasive about how they knew each other. But they’re both grieving and determined to find out why Rob jumped. Answers don’t come easily and soon, they’re soothing each other with sweat-slicked, passionate encounters. Hot as things get in the bedroom, it doesn’t take them long to realize there’s more between them than mind-blowing sex and their pain. But the heaviness is still there, threatening to pull them under, and if they can’t open up with each other to lighten the load, the weight just might be enough to crush them both.

A good ole Southern boy, Devon McCormack grew up in the Georgia suburbs with his two younger brothers and an older sister. At a very young age, he spun tales the old fashioned way, lying to anyone and everyone he encountered. He claimed he was an orphan. He claimed to be a king from another planet. He claimed to have supernatural powers. He has since harnessed this penchant for tall tales by crafting worlds and characters that allow him to live out whatever fantasy he chooses. Devon is an out and proud gay man living with his partner in Atlanta, Georgia.
