Review: The only bright spots in Bryson Franklin’s life were his grandparents and the farm they owned in Willow River. His parents were drunks and always made sure he knew he was a mistake. Bryson always believed that he was never good enough, so he wound up being around a bad class of people. When he inherits his grandparents’ farm he tries to start over again, but his self-esteem and loneliness eat away at him, still making him feel useless. Bryson makes a connection to his neighbor Daniel Riggs. Bryson thinks maybe he could have something with Daniel, though he knows the attraction isn’t good. But, he can’t stop himself from becoming involved with Daniel.
Deputy Sam LeClaire is a good man. He’s lived in Willow River his whole life and wishes for it to become a place that’s without intolerance. He has dreams to someday meet someone he can love and spend the rest of his life with. He runs into Bryson a few times, and Bryson piques his interest. Bryson knows there’s something about Sam that gives him a sense of calm. Sam knows he has an attraction to Bryson, but he won’t act on it. He’s been hearing rumors about Daniel and Bryson, but that doesn’t stop Sam from having his fantasies.
Daniel Riggs is psycho. He drags Bryson into a deep, dark hole that there’s no escaping from. Is Sam LeClaire the one person that can save Bryson from this diabolical trap?
Hank Edwards had me from the very start of Buried Secrets; it was so good I couldn’t put it down, and it had me on the edge of my seat. This novel is a solid murder mystery/suspense story that’s got a psychological thriller edge to it. The characters were interesting and well developed. The most disappointing part was that the story ended! I wanted more!
