Mac is devastated by Narith’s seemingly cavalier treatment, while Narith is surprised to realize he is jealous of another male claiming Mac’s body. But more than personal feelings seethe beneath the veneer of domestic harmony and as trouble bubbles to the surface, the fate of Mac’s and Narith’s very lives is at stake.
Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of non-consensual rape and sex scenes with dubious consent, as well as some brief violence. and torture. This book also contains a scene of M/F intimacy.
Review: Please pay attention to the warning on this book and this series. They mean what they say when they say non-con, dub-con, abuse, and torture. If that will bother or trigger you, then I recommend staying away from this series. However, if you are a brave reader or want a different type of adventure, then I really cannot recommend this series highly enough.
As with the other books, I absolutely love this series; however, this book is by far my favorite. I absolutely loved Stuart in the first book, and my heart broke for him. I was desperate to hear his story. Finally, in this book, readers get a chance, and oh how Samantha Cayto manages to rip out your heart and stomp on it, then put it back together.
I forget how many times I cried reading this. I know I’m sensitive, but I adore Stuart—or Mac, as he’s called now—and every little thing that went wrong for him just about killed me. Unlike the other boys taken from the colony, Mac has fallen in love with his new owner, and Narith seems to genuinely care for him. It’s so sweet, and yet you wonder if it can be sustained, especially when Narith is called back to his home and his mate. His female mate.
While the first book takes place completely on a ship, and the second on a space station, this third installment is set on the Travian home world. This allows readers to get a glimpse of Travian society completely in their element. The first book deals solely with the males, the second introduces the females, and the third has the heaviest presence of females yet. What an interesting species Cayto has created! They are well developed and intricate. While vaguely human in looks, their society is complex and far different from ours. I enjoyed learning more about their culture.
The book ended too quickly for me. I wanted more! Is the ending logical? Absolutely, and in all honesty, it is good. I’m just greedy when it comes to this series and felt that it could have gone on much longer. Perhaps another hundred pages? I wanted to know what happened next, and I sincerely hope there will be a fourth book in the series. I can see so much more happening. Now, as to which character would be next, I don’t know. Perhaps the three boys and their partners share a book? I would be okay with that. I’d also be okay with another book from Mac’s perspective.
If you haven’t read the first two books in the series, I highly recommend going back. While the characters are different in each book, they build off of each other. The first book sets up the series and explains exactly how Mac got to where he is today. While the author does do a decent job of setting it up for new readers, I feel the best experience would be to start from book one.
