Review: When I requested this book, I did not realize it was the sequel to Shaken Up. Sure, the cover art looked familiar and I thought I recognized the author name, but it didn’t click until I really started reading. Tim and Jae felt so familiar to me, and when I went back into my stash and saw Shaken Up, I was thrilled! I had enjoyed that book and hoped there would be a sequel, and here it was!
Settling Down is a great sequel. It follows Tim and Jae as they are beginning to get into the groove of their relationship. They’ve discussed each other’s needs and while Jae is not completely familiar with Domestic Discipline, he’s willing to try it in order to give Tim what he needs. And boy, does Tim need it.
Just when it appears the characters truly are “settling down” into their new roles, a few twists and turns are thrown their way. Jae’s parents and Tim’s father plan visits. This means putting away the domestic discipline while they have visitors, and maintaining a carefully constructed and parental approved façade. However, when a certain someone from Tim’s past shows up at his doorstep, all of Tim’s hard-won feelings of safety are stolen from him. And without Jae there to settle him, he’s struggling to maintain his self-control.
I truly loved seeing the evolution of Tim and Jae’s relationship. Jae might be the Dom, but he has moments of uncertainty. He wants to be the best he can for Tim, but he is still unsure of himself in the realm of domestic issues. With his parents there as well, he struggles to bury his Dom in order to keep them in the dark as to his lifestyle. They know he’s gay, and they love Tim, but do parents really need to know everything?
And then there’s Tim. He’s come so far from the first book, and seeing him tossed back to the wolves was heartbreaking. I wanted to pull him into a hug and hide him away. Nicole Forcine does an excellent job of building lovable submissive characters.
If there is a sequel to this book, I will be thrilled. There is so much more that can be done with Tim and Jae, and I look forward to seeing what Forcine has in store for them next!
If you enjoy books with BDSM themes or elements of Domestic Discipline, I highly recommend this book. If you have not read the first one, Shaken Up, I recommend you do so first. It follows the events of the first, and some events may be confusing without the background information of the first.
