Review: I have reviewed almost all of these books in audio. I always jump at the chance when it comes to this series and this author, as she is simply fabulous. I was completely looking forward to taking a break from Dex and Sloane and seeing this couple really get wings and fly, but I was a little disappointed.
Let me preface this with the fact that I really liked this book. I got to visit with the boys, and see shenanigans going on, and laugh and cry with them. I got to see sexy time and see Dex and Sloane from a different perspective, and that was fun. What I really wanted was to learn a lot more about Calvin and Hobbs. I really valued the scenes at Hobbs’ house with his mother and father, seeing him interact with his family and getting to know his brothers more. I was sad to see that we really didn’t get to know Calvin’s mother a whole lot, and I really just wanted more of Calvin and Hobbs, maybe not so much of the team interaction. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book. How can you not root for Hobbs when he worships the ground that Calvin walks on? And when you see the utter loyalty and love in Calvin’s eyes when they are together. I look forward to delving more into this world in the future.
Narration: Mark Westfield did an amazing job. I was a little concerned after listening to him in the past, speaking as Dex, that it would throw me off when he voiced Hobbs and Calvin, but he did brilliantly. One exception to this performance—please do not attempt that British accent for Hudson. It sounded really bad. Of course, Westfield brings his own flare to the story, though, and draws me in every time.
