We’re so pleased to have author Cari. Z. joining us today on the tour for her upcoming release with Dreamspinner Press, Changing Worlds.
Welcome, Cari!

By the time you’re reading this blog post, it’ll be GRL! So many people going, so much packing and hurrying and rushing around, trying to make sure you’ve got everything you need for the con. Is your schedule already fixed? Do you know where you want to go and what you want to do, or are you winging it? Are you meeting up with old friends, or hoping to make some new ones? Do you have any real idea what’s going on?
I’m not at GRL, but I wish I was. Given my schedule this year (RT Conference, and a trip overseas) I couldn’t get the time off for this one, but if you have I hope you’re having an amazing time! It’s a rush, plunging headlong into something with so many moving parts. It’s part-exciting, part-intimidating. For a natural introvert like me (and so many of us—yes, we know our tribe well) the intimidation can verge of petrification at times. At my last big conference, I had someone to shepherd me through the rough patches. I hope you do too.
Why is this relevant at all to my novel Changing Worlds? Because this story is all about taking my main character, Jason Kim, out of his comfort zone and into a place where he’s a total stranger. He has friends, yes, he has allies and a new husband and a tentative place in a new society, but he’s the first human to marry an alien Perel. He’s the first one allowed to live with them, to carve a place for himself among them, and to have to fight for that place when threatened. He’s going off to live on a planet that’s trying to kill him, is married to someone whom he adores but doesn’t completely understand, is expected to catch on to the nuances of a brand new culture fast enough to keep from embarrassing his in-laws and possibly plunging the planet into a state of civil war…it’s a lot of pressure. Love is what gets Jason through the trials and challenges of Changing Worlds. Hopefully, pre-gaming and networking will be what you need to get through GRL. Plus friends. Friends are awesome.
Changing Worlds is one of the first full-length novels I ever published, and still one of my favorites. This is the second edition, graciously re-edited and republished by Dreamspinner Press. It’s science fiction, yes, but the heart of the book is a romance between two very different people that can’t be broken, no matter how hard outside forces try to tear it down. If you like intrigue, action, and true love, I hope you’ll give it a try.
It’ll probably help if you like aliens, too.
Good luck GRL-ers, happy conning! If you’re not there (like me) have an awesome week!

About the Book
Blurb: 2nd Edition
Their love will either inspire change in the world or tear it apart.
Former starship captain Jason Kim and his lover, Ferran, are starting a life together on Ferran’s native planet. The Perel matriarchs reluctantly allowed their marriage in the hopes of securing better diplomatic relations with humanity, even though the decision ignites anger from traditionalists. Ferran’s family accepts Jason and the love the two men have found, but other influential families are less accommodating and much less willing to welcome an outsider to their isolated, subterranean world. Some of their enemies are willing to go as far as eliminating Jason permanently. Tensions are quickly building toward a breaking point that might push Perelan into a bloody civil war.
If Jason and Ferran have any hope of surviving the coming conflict, they’ll have to rely on their devotion to each other more than ever before. But that won’t be easy when a figure from Jason’s past reappears to make them question everything.
