Hey everyone! My name is M.A. Church, and I’ve dropped by The Novel Approach to talk about my upcoming release, Riding the Tide. This is book two in the Deep Blue Sea series and the focus is on Marcus, the merman who made a brief appearance in Beneath the Surface. Marcus is the merman who showed up not long after Kannon figured out just exactly what Nisha was. Talk about bad timing, lol.
He’s a friend of Nisha’s and has permission to live in Nisha’s territory. In return for that right, he’s one of the warriors tasked with protecting the region. While Kannon and Nisha intrigued me, there was something about Marcus that begged for a story.
Maybe it was his easygoing personality, a personality that hinted that some things in his life weren’t as simplistic as they first seemed. Marcus has some very defined ideas about what he is and is not going to do with his life.
The one thing he’s adamant about is that he’s never going to mate. In fact, on more than one occasion he states he’s never getting mated. *grin* (You know, you’d think these characters of mine would know better than to throw down a challenge like that, lol.)
Marcus finds out rather quickly the best laid plans can go awry.

The Excerpt
Some resorts offered a dinner cruise package—a few hours on the water which included a nice dinner, a band for entertainment, and drinks. But this one was far enough away he wasn’t concerned about it. He slipped off his shorts, dropped them on the sand, and ran toward the water.
He waded in, the water grabbing at his legs almost as if welcoming him home. As the waves hit him he dove into the water. He cleared his mind and let the transformation to his preferred form begin. The water cradled him as the seconds ticked by. His body tingled, especially his lower extremities.
A sharp, sudden pain washed over him as his tail formed. The gills opened, and he stretched, shaking out his tail and flexing his caudal fin. The dolphins called to him once more, and he swam towards them.
None of them knew why it was easier to go from legs to tail. Not only did it take less time, it didn’t hurt. Well, not like forming legs did. It stung some, but it was nothing compared to how bad it was bringing forth his legs. Maybe it was the fact that everything melted together and reformed—there was no tearing. He didn’t know and didn’t care.

BLURB: Caught between two worlds—what’s a merman to do?
Marcus Krill, a creature of the sea, is a perfectly content bachelor. Mating someone? No thank you. Living anywhere but in the ocean? Ha! Not happening. Spending more than the barest necessity of time on land? Nope. Not this merman. And humans? They’re perfectly fine as a diversion, but that’s all. They might be interesting, but complications follow them like a hungry shark during a feeding frenzy. So what if he’s a little lonely, a little tired of one-night stands? That doesn’t mean he’s ready to mate.
Blair Estes, a creature of land, is perfectly happy with his nomadic lifestyle. No strings keep him tied to any one place long. Adventure is his lover and adrenaline his master. He loves to travel, and the things he’s seen defy description. Now his wandering has brought him to the Seychelles and a mysterious merman who’s going to take him on the journey of a lifetime.
Once again merfolk and human culture collide in an explosion of passion and… fear.
