Review: My only problem with this series is that the books are entirely too short. I love every single Adrift book that has come out, and I want more! Each time one is released, I greedily snatch it up and devour it within just a few short hours. While I am disappointed when they end, each one leaves me temporarily satisfied, and book four is no different.
The Captain’s Promise picks up a bit after the end of book three. The Captain and his men have begun to settle on their new planet with their alien friend, Rux, and they seem to be pretty content with the idea. Until they get a distress signal from a neighboring planet. Having gone for years without a single call, this startles them. Of course, when they learn it is from Rux’s creators, they determine they need to go. However, when they arrive, nothing goes as planned.
Once again, I loved every single character. I feel that Rux and Zachary really had their shining moments in this story. Rux has some fantastic one-liners that had me barking out laughs very unexpectedly! Zachary has a few good quips as well.
I wanted to smoosh Rick into a hug, and Echo is as perfect as ever. Even more is learned about Antoine, which was fantastic development on the author’s part. I really love how Land is bringing all of the characters together. Honestly, I have never read a series with such diverse characters that work so well together. While each man is different, they bring a much-needed part to the group. Even though they can stand alone and do so well, there’s just something better about them when they’re all together. It’s difficult to describe, but I guess you’ll just have to read it for yourself to understand.
Speaking of, you absolutely must read this series in order, to get the full effect. The characters develop throughout the series, and the books are so short you can read them all in one day if you’re a quick reader.
I eagerly await the next book because T.J. Land has yet to disappoint me. I hope the series never ends, but I do hope that NineStar Press will consider releasing a print volume of the books together. A collection, maybe? Because I would snatch that up as well, in a heartbeat!
