Blurb: Growing up, Jason Stern led a charmed life complete with devoted sisters, a father who was one of Brooklyn’s most respected rabbis, and a mother who made the world’s best babka. He headed to NYU ready for anything—except falling for the wrong guy, coming out, and getting disowned by his once-loving family. In spite of that, Jason managed to graduate with honors. He’s got friends who treat him like family, and he’s proudly running the largest LGBTQ teen shelter in Manhattan. Life is good, but he’s still falling for the wrong men.
When charming, sexy Quinn Fitzpatrick begins work at the shelter, Jason falls hard and fast. Quinn is tall, blond, funny—damn near perfect. Only if Quinn’s gay, even he doesn’t seem to know it. If he does, he’s not telling anyone. And he’s about one ceremony away from becoming a Catholic priest.
Long hours of work turn to long nights of talking and laughter, and Jason dares to hope this time he’s falling for the right guy. But Quinn’s got a past to deal with and major decisions to make about his future. When Quinn leaves for a silent retreat, Jason knows the silence may change everything.
Review: This is the first book in the Moments in Time series that centers on a new couple. They are closely related to Collin and Tanner from the previous books, but this story takes us to a new and welcomed place.
Jason Stern is out, on his own, and trying to take a shelter for homeless youth from dilapidated to a place anyone would be happy to call home. The cause is close to his heart because when he was disowned by his strict Rabbi father, the shelter is where he found a place to be safe in New York City.
Quinn is about to become a priest. He has taken a year off. He has never allowed himself to even think he’s gay, even though it’s obvious to all around him—except Jason—that Quinn is totally in love with Jason. The two know each other only slightly. Jason worked with Quinn’s brother, Collin, for a summer when Collin was disowned by his own family for being gay as well.
Over the course of a few weeks, Quinn and Jason become close and then begin a relationship that surprises them both. Will Quinn return to the priesthood and take vows, or will he choose Jason? Both have places in his heart, but he must decide. If he chooses Jason, his life will radically change. He will have to come out as well as face the treatment he gave his brother when Collin came out.
Robert Nieman returns as narrator for this book, as he has for the three previous in this series, but this time out he is given new characters and a whole new story to work with. He does a fantastic job with the material here. Voices are crisp and clear, the action is given proper weight, and there are no voice speed bumps. The love scenes between the main characters are treated with care and the joy of new discovery. Because this is all new material for the author, this book is about twice as long as the previous books, and in the capable hands of Nieman, it is worth the investment of time. This is a great addition to the series, and really lets the voice talent of the narrator shine through. Buy the book. The story is great and the narration is of the best quality. You don’t need to know the previous story to completely enjoy this book.
