Blurb: Every good Dick needs a sidekick…

Actor Tom Lewis’s world came crashing down when a honey trap and tabloid exposé outed him and put pay to his flourishing career. The housewives favourite was most well-known for his role as ‘Detective Fox’ in the quaint British series Malmesbury Murders. But after the media speculation about his sexuality, the show is in hiatus and Tom hasn’t worked six months.

Now things are getting serious, the money he made from M.M is running out and he needs a job desperately. So when Tom’s agent offers him a six week seasonal acting job, he reluctantly agrees… and takes on the role of Santa for a top London department store.

This decision changes Tom’s luck. Not only will he have an income for the holiday season, he’ll also be working with a very sexy young elf that he spotted at the auditions, named Eli Mason.

While on a break Tom overhears two unidentified store workers discussing a ‘job to get a little Christmas bonus”. He realizes the job is of the illegal sort. Now, Tom could call the police, but then again, wouldn’t it be great for his flagging career if Detective Fox saved the day.

So Fox is on the case, and as every good Dick needs a sidekick, Tom decides Eli will fit the role, in more ways than one.”

Review: So, poor Tom Lewis, who, up till now, hid the fact that he was gay, and played a brash, steely on screen detective, happens to be the total opposite when it comes to letting his guard down in the bedroom—so much so that he has never really found the one younger man who he can not only trust but depend on to keep his inner submissive happy. When he is forced, due to dwindling funds, to take on the role of Santa at a posh department store, little does he know that one of Santa’s elves is going to ring his Christmas bells, and then some. Eli is young, a fresh graduate of an elite acting school and an acrobat who is in desperate need of some income. When he discovers that the Santa to his elf is none other than THE Tom Lewis, he is over the moon—and then he discovers more about the man than any tabloid could ever reveal. To say it is love at first sight is going a bit too far, but the sparks are definitely flying, and when Tom uncovers a theft ring that is plotting to spoil the store’s Christmas Eve, Eli is all in as the sidekick Tom has never had but always wanted.

I cannot say much more about this little Christmas gem than has already been revealed by the blurb, other than I just adored this couple—Tom and Eli. The fact that they were more than twenty years apart in age never really threw me; in fact, the age thing completely disappears when these two get together and discover that deep down they are darn near perfect for each other. Tom is your classic onscreen tough guy—a detective who is the heartthrob of many a housewife. That reputation is nearly destroyed when he is outed by a casual hookup that sells his story to the society rag he just started writing for. Now Tom is scrambling to find work while waiting for the network to re-sign him for another season—something that is looking iffy at best. When Eli comes along, two things happen; first, Tom is smitten—’cause the guy makes him laugh and it’s been a long time since anyone made Tom smile. Second, Eli is willing to be the dominant partner in their casual affair—which melts just about every one of Tom’s defenses and gives Eli a way into his heart.

With a taut little mystery to unravel and a relationship that is threatening to be more than just casual, Tom and Eli are moving at high speed toward busting the bad guys and possibly falling in love. Throw in some lighthearted humor, a few memorable side characters and you have the perfect Christmas love story, complete with action and adventure and just a little kink thrown in for good measure.

I have been a fan of author Isobel Starling from the start, and this latest Christmas novella seals the deal for me. This author is now on auto-buy for me, and deservedly so, for her writing just gets better and better! Detective Fox and the Christmas Caper should be on the top of your Christmas reading list!
