Blurb: For years, Ethan and Toby have said they’ll never marry, despite Ethan’s secret wishes. So leaving sunny California for snowy Minnesota to witness his sister’s vow renewal is not how he wants to spend his Christmas Eve. It’s the second time she’ll say “I do” in less than a year, when Ethan saying those words to Toby even once is hopeless.

In the run-up to the ceremony, Toby seems to avoid Ethan, and doubts grow in his absence. Ethan can’t help noticing Toby spends more time with Ethan’s family than with him. Little does Ethan know, Toby has desires of his own. But if Toby doesn’t find a way to reveal them, Ethan could leave for home without him.

Review: I was excited when I saw Posy Roberts’ name on the Dreamspinner Press Advent Calendar list this year. I’m a fan of her work, and I really enjoyed Feathers From the Sky, her holiday story from the 2013 collection, so I had pretty high expectations when I started Analog to Digital.

I enjoyed Ethan and Toby very much. I liked that they were an established couple, and that their love shone through in the story. I could tell how close they were and how much they enjoyed taking care of each other, and I really liked that. They both work very hard—Toby appraising and restoring antiques, and Ethan as the creative director at a design house—but Ethan had a particularly difficult time allowing himself to step away from his job. So, Toby suggests they take some time away for the holiday to go to Ethan’s sister’s vow renewal in Minnesota. Ethan thinks it’s ridiculous, as she got married less than a year ago, and they attended that ceremony, but he agrees to the trip.

While they’re in Minnesota visiting Ethan’s family, and preparing for the ‘wedding’, Toby continuously disappears with Ethan’s family and is acting a bit shifty. Ethan tries to shake it off but can’t help being bothered by the distance, and is getting a bit bent out of shape. Toby is able to talk him down, though, and the trip gets back on track. Like Ethan, I was thrown by the whole vow renewal. And, I definitely thought something was fishy with Toby, AND that I knew what it was. I didn’t. I was so sure about what was going to happen that I was delightfully surprised by the fun twist that Roberts threw in.

This was a good addition to this year’s collection. I maybe wasn’t wowed, like I sort of hoped to be, but I absolutely wasn’t disappointed either. I liked Ethan and Toby’s story; Roberts crafted a sweet HEA for this very sweet couple. I got some good Christmassy feels, and loved what she did with the surprise ending. I think I just wanted it to be a tad longer so that I could have made an even stronger connection with the guys.
