At a Glance: While I enjoyed this story, I felt like maybe the pacing and relationship were a little rushed and might have benefitted from a longer word count.

Blurb: After everything Marc owned burned to a crisp, he’s living off the kindness of others. A model condo is his temporary home, and his last dime went to essentials. He doesn’t need another distraction, but the fates conspire against him, setting up a chain of encounters that bring him face to face with Cas.
Cas’s love life has been in limbo for years, lovers moving on as soon as they discover how close he is to his best friend, Maisie. Then he meets Marc. The attraction between the two men can’t be denied, but Cas isn’t sure he can risk his friendship for a guy who will only end up leaving when he sees how close he and Maisie are.
When Marc and Cas discover they live in the same building, it’s kismet. But Marc has to invite chaos into his life if he and Cas stand a chance, and Cas faces a choice between friendship and love. Luck may be on their side… if they’re willing to risk it all.
Review: Marc is not having a good time. His apartment has burned and he’s lost everything. While his friend is able to get him temporary housing in a model condo, he’s got no kitchen necessities, has had to replace his clothes, and is in limbo until the insurance adjusters have finished with the case. He runs into a guy, and what he assumes is his wife or girlfriend, at the local thrift shop where he’s attempting to outfit his kitchen. The couple seem to be having fun, but the guy, Cas, seems a little bit defensive and possessive. But then Cas does Marc a favor and kind of overwhelms the poor guy.
As luck would have it, Cas and Maisie—his best friend, not his girlfriend—live in the same building. Cas and Marc are definitely attracted, but Cas has been burned before when lovers can’t handle his relationship with Maisie. Maisie doesn’t want to give up her comfortable relationship with Cas, even though she knows he needs something else.
Both Marc and Cas have to deal with the situation with Maisie, with feelings of jealousy and jumping to conclusions. Misunderstandings and insecurities lead to potential trouble in their fledgling relationship. Maisie’s reluctance to face the truth about her situation doesn’t help. Ultimately, though, both men have to face their fears and learn to deal with things honestly and directly if they are going to have a shot at anything real.
While I enjoyed this story, I felt like maybe the pacing and relationship were a little rushed. There were a couple of coincidences (too many for my taste) with some of the secondary characters towards the end of the story. I also would have liked for Cas and Marc to spend more time together to develop their relationship a bit more. I really would like to read more about these characters, and maybe another twenty pages would have made the story feel more complete for me. As usual, your mileage may vary.
