Review: The band is back together and they are going on tour. This is another fine addition to this Rhys Ford Series, but listeners really should take the books in order—the story relies on you knowing most of the history of main character, Miki St. John, and his partner in most things but bed, Damien Mitchell.
The band decides to tour in a shabby van while going from small town gig to small town gig. All the while they are haunted by their pasts, former tragedies, and a stalker who tries to end the tour for his own reasons. Then, there’s sheer bad luck the likes of which you’re not likely to find believable unless you live it.
How do you tour, fight fate, the lovers you left at home, and the stalker with an axe to grind? This book helps you find out how.
Tristan James returns for another tour of his own as the narrator. His easy style and random brogue keep you in touch with the story. In lesser hands, this series would have been a mess. His narration lets you take it easy and glide along the story as an observer and a participant. The story is told in rich detail and Ford gives James a ton to work with in terms of character, setting, and pure suspense of what will happen next and how it will be fixed to give someone, anyone, a happy ending.
This book is a good buy if you love the series and have read or listened to most of it previously, as stated above—this is not the book to start the series with. If you’ve been holding out on buying the audio, stop waiting and buy it. This is a great narration and the really good story is enhanced by Tristan James. If you haven’t dived into this series yet, you’re really missing out on some good, suspense filled fun.
