Blurb: Snow, steam, and secrets.
The latest snowstorm carries something unexpected to the doorstep of Hutch’s secluded Alaskan cabin: a stranger named Jude, the most beautiful man Hutch has ever seen. Jude says he’s in the area for a ski trip and that he fled a domineering lover, thinking he could make it into town. But Hutch is a suspicious SOB and treats his unwanted guest warily. The problem is Jude isn’t just gorgeous, he’s funny and smart and flirtatious.
Two gay men snowed in for three days—things happen. Really good things. By the time the storm clears, Hutch finds himself a little too attached to Jude Devereaux, San Francisco-based male model. But is Jude what he claims to be? Or is he entangled in the secrets Hutch moved to Alaska to escape?
Review: Hutch could never be called warm or welcoming, but, then again, there is much more than meets the eye to this snow and rescue man. Motion sensors, trap wires and various escape routes would indicate that Hutch is worried about far more than an occasional bear crossing his path deep in the Alaskan woods. In fact, Hutch is hiding—from whom and why is most definitely a mystery—so when a stranger stumbles onto his property, nearly frozen to death, it is with great reluctance that Hutch allows him into his cabin—his safe haven.
The stranger, Jude, is devastatingly handsome, supposedly running from an abusive lover, and quickly gets under Hutch’s skin. A snowstorm allows the two men to get to know one another intimately, but it is a huge shock and unhappy surprise when Hutch realizes that Jude is not exactly who he has claimed to be. Instead, he has brought danger and the past back to Hutch’s door, and Hutch is mighty unhappy about it.
Eli Easton offers up a little espionage and mystery with her latest dramatic romance called Snowblind, the newest Dreamspun Desires offering. Fast paced and spellbinding–the story moves fast, very fast–action is the name of the game. The sparks fly between the aloof Hutch and the affable Jude, and their chemistry is instant and undeniable. Once again, this author has dished up two very sexy men who have depth and appeal—Hutch, in particular. His story slowly unfolds and keeps you guessing until nearly halfway through the book. The twist in the plot really makes this story explode, and what had been a tense read now goes off the chart in terms of nail-biting action. The author so successfully lulls the reader, just as she does Hutch, into a false sense of security, making the arc in the story just that much more thrilling.
You can feel the shock and betrayal as Hutch does—and you can also capture a sense of the shame and sadness that Jude gives off when all is finally revealed. This story packs a punch, and it’s not just due to the smoking sex or the insanely hot chemistry between Jude and Hutch. Author Eli Easton makes her men real, gives them both enough of a past and just the right amount of humanity to have the reader rooting for them almost immediately after disaster strikes. Yes, there is definitely a sense of “insta-attraction/love” in this one, but I have to tell you that it never feels like it’s beyond the realm of plausibility. In fact, you buy it hook, line and sinker because this author is just that good at storytelling and developing her characters.
I really enjoyed Snowblind. It was a triple threat for me, with just the right blend of action, mystery and romance. I highly recommend it to you.
