Blurb: Just a little Love Bite: When the unexpected happens, it doesn’t always mean the end.

When the Horseman of War decides to have a little fun and he accompanies a favored demon into the human realm to join in a skirmish, he never expects to meet a vampire that jumpstarts his libido. A romp with Monte Hanover would be fun, passionate, and maybe even worthy of a repeat…after they finish the battle, of course. To his surprise, he helps rescue a prairie dog shifter that brings out protective instincts he didn’t even know he was capable of. Unfortunately, little Xerxes turns out to be Monte’s beloved. Scratching his itch with either man seems unlikely. Then, the unthinkable happens, and he realizes without his intervention, it would mean the death of both men. Can he take that leap? Or will War decide two lives, in the grand scheme of things, isn’t really worth the changes he’d need to make?

Review: While this is the twelfth book in the series, Taming War can be read as a standalone, although I would recommend reading the prior book to get a little more background on the Four Horseman and their demons.

The Horseman of War is on a mission with a vampire Coven against some rather nasty “priests” that we met in the last book of this series. This human group is torturing paranormals—vampire and shifters—and they must be stopped. War also has kind of a thing for Monte Hanover, a rather smartass vampire who is part of the coven that is fighting the priests. Monte doesn’t really want to be involved with a Horseman or demon, even though one of his coven is with one of War’s demons.

During the battle at the priests’ underground bunker, War and Monte discover a shifter who is about to killed by one of the keepers. During the ensuing battle, War takes a liking to Xerxes, the shifter, but then finds out that he is Monte’s beloved. Now he’s in a dilemma because he likes them both. ;)

Unfortunately, as they try to escape and dispatch the rest of the evil crew, Monte is seriously injured. Xerxes is frightened and calls for War, who is able to rescue both Xerxes and Monte. Surprisingly, both Xerxes and Monte become attached to War, which causes other troubles with the demons and the Horseman. Hopefully everything can work out for everyone involved, and things can back to (para)normal. :)

This was a really interesting story in this series. We get a lot more of the Horsemen, the demons, and another glimpse into their world. Monte is very entertaining, both with War and with Xerxes. I found myself wondering what would happen between these three characters as there has never been a throuple in the series. The way Charlie Richards worked it out was intriguing, and I will be waiting to see what happens next in this world. You’d think at this point there wouldn’t be new twists, but with this threesome, the author has shifted the paradigm of this world. Recommended for fans of the series and the paranormal worlds of Charlie Richards, with a fresh spin on the bonds of mates, beloveds and animas and the Horsemen.
