At a Glance: This is a well plotted murder/paranormal mystery, with some interesting questions about death. I really liked Jon, who had a sadness about him but kept his sense of humor, and Brody, who’s snarky but turns out to be Jon’s hero.

Review: Jonathan “Jon” Calvin Watts, age twenty-eight, was just a regular guy, with a regular waiter job. Now he’s met his fate. He doesn’t know why or what happened, but now he’s an entity trying to solve his demise. A missing cell phone, laptop, and the five hundred dollars in his wallet leaves Jon baffled.
But along comes Brody Ellis, a former detective who met his fate while working undercover. He’s been searching for his killer for the last five years. He takes Jon under his wing and mentors him in the art of being a ghost. Brody, having the experience as a detective, finds himself deep in the investigation of Jon’s death, but being a ghost makes it difficult to get the clues to fellow detective Mike Harris.
Sage Crewe is Mike’s neighbor, whom Mike tries to avoid. Mike thinks Sage is weird, and he just doesn’t have time for him. As the investigation into Jon’s murder becomes more complex, Mike gets a lead that takes him to the Far Horizon club, where Sage finds him. To get Sage out of his hair, Mike shows him a picture of Jon, and hurries away. Before Mike can escape from the club, Sage stops him and tells him Jon is there in the club. Yes, Sage sees dead people, hears them too, but it’s not something he really wants to make known. Sage, Jon and Brody have to come up with a plan to get Mike to listen to them in order to solve more than one murder.
Jon and Brody want to find closure to their deaths so they can move on, but they have no idea what will happen to them when they do, which makes their situation more complicated. Once they move on, what form will they take, and would they ever see each other again? And what of Brody, who has already sworn to stay with Jon until his murderer is found? Helping Jon and Brody brings Sage and Mike to a new understanding and new feelings.
This is a well plotted murder/paranormal mystery, with some interesting questions about death. I really liked Jon, who had a sadness about him but kept his sense of humor, and Brody, who’s snarky but turns out to be Jon’s hero. Sage and Mike have to work at their relationship, and gradually get close. All four characters are well developed. It was interesting to see how Ghostly Investigation ended. It could certainly lead to a series.
