Review: Sam’s Soldier is the second book in the Boys of Brighton series, and while these three men are mentioned in book one, you do not have to have read it to understand book two.

Dante and Spider came to Brighton Texas to work protection for Gabe (the MC from book one). The first week they arrive, they meet Sam and the three men agree to a no-strings-attached sexual relationship for the remainder of the time Dante and Spider have to spend in Brighton. This second book picks up five weeks later when Sam is starting to realize how much his two soldiers are beginning to mean to him, and just how much of his heart he has already given away.

Sam Mason is a dedicated ER nurse. He loves what he does, looking forward to each day at work and the good and the bad that can come through the ER doors at Brighton General Hospital. But for the last few weeks, he loves going home more to be in the arms of his two studly lovers. They click. They work. And Sam doesn’t know what he is going to do when the duo have to move on, leave and go on another assignment elsewhere. Falling in love wasn’t what they agreed upon, but Sam couldn’t help himself, and now lives in fear of the day they disappear from his life.

Dante and Spider (Jack) have picked up a third several times over the course of their eight year relationship. That person never lasts for long—it’s always a short term deal. But meeting Sam has thrown both men for a loop, and left them with feelings which are changing the dynamic of their relationship. Both men are scarred inside and out from their time in the military. Finding each other while in a war zone bonded them in a way few could understand. But Dante is scarred from a brutal upbringing, and has trouble believing that two men could love him unconditionally.

I enjoyed this book. Yes, it has plot holes big enough to drive a hummer through, and we kinda get plopped down into the middle of a romance that is already five weeks old. It’s a bit cliché (ok, a whole lot), and there are absolutely no twists and turns, and the angst really doesn’t last long, but, believe it or not, it was entertaining. Sometimes you just want some mild BDSM, ménage and a HEA. That’s what this story delivers. This is not War and Peace, people, just mental candy and an easy read. So, if that’s what you are in the mood for, I say go for it! There are three books in this series, and each standalone but are all on this same level of light reading.
