Blurb: First impressions fool recently dumped Rory into thinking Shannon’s a walk on the wild side and the perfect way to get over a failed relationship. Shannon’s not about to argue. Not when Rory coaxes him into some of the hottest, roughest sex of his life. But who is Rory falling in love with? A fantasy lover or the real man?

Fighting to keep Rory happy, longing for romance as well as the steamy sessions that leave them bruised and breathless, Shannon’s got a lot on his plate even before family and friends complicate matters further.

There’s only one solution. Turn up the heat, and hope it doesn’t burn their relationship to the ground.

Review: Whew, let me start by saying that Shannon and Rory in the bedroom (or in the office, on the phone, etc.) are pretty darn hot. Turn Up the Heat was a mostly enjoyable little read for me, despite having some minor niggles.

Rory is a fairly vanilla guy; at least he is until he meets Shannon. He goes about his schedule, takes care of his brother, and has brunch with his family every weekend. Acting totally out of character, he decides to have a quick raunchy go at it with the hot Shannon. Shannon looks the part of an aggressive alpha male, and Rory wants to explore his deepest secret. But after getting a taste of his hidden desires, personified, he can’t stop at just one encounter.

Shannon, though looking the part of an aggressive guy, really isn’t. Or, at least he wasn’t. Not until an encounter with Rory rocks his world. He gives Rory what he wants, and in doing so, confuses the crap out of himself.

This book definitely explores certain kink factors, and there are plenty of sexy times between the two. It was interesting reading Rory’s slow change to being more assertive in his personal life once he starts exploring his physical desires, which were more submissive. It was as if being able to let go there, he was able to become more self-assured elsewhere in his life. Also, I personally was fascinated by the exploration of the confusion Shannon goes through. Discovering something he didn’t know about himself, at all, then trying to figure out and reconcile his now kinkier side with his desires to also have tender encounters and emotional intimacy, and figuring out how to find balance with the guy he was falling for, who only seemed to want one side.

Apart from some pretty hot and heavy scenes, I did have some personal issues with the book. The lack of communication between the two MCs frustrated me beyond belief. When I am reading a book, and am constantly (in my head) yelling at them to “Just talk it out already!”, I get all exasperated. With Rory and Shannon, it happened so many times it wasn’t funny. Every time there was something they should have talked about, instead, angry, rough sex happened, and very little got resolved. Several of their obstacles could have been avoided had one, or both, of them taken the time away from their physical needs to really talk.

Communication pet peeve aside, the heat in this story is definitely turned up, so if you are looking for a steamy, dirty talking, kinky read, it won’t disappoint.
