Cory’s mother is still fuzzy on the concept of a polyamorous multispecies marriage and sets her up with an OBGYN obsessed with the inhuman silhouettes of her babies.
Cory doesn’t want her children born in the middle of a turf war, but the people she and Green have nurtured and fought for aren’t about to let her face this enemy alone. This battle is for queen and home, and the babies quickening in Cory’s body are a symbol of hope. Cory’s going to have to give up the idea of being a weapon and embrace the idea of being a mother, or she’ll let down those depending on her most.
Review: Finally. FINALLY. The babies are coming, and we have some closure! Cory and her men and their people have worked SO HARD to get here. And we readers have bled, sweated, and cried right along with them. Congrats, Amy Lane, on finally bringing your little goddess home.
The action in this final installment is quick, and there are a lot of strings to tie off as the story races to the end point. Cory is WAY pregnant, her men are in protective mode, their world is under attack, and—good lord—Cory’s mom is trying to be INVOLVED. A lot is going on in this volume. The characters are finishing their arcs, really maturing and evolving and owning the roles they’ve been growing into for the entire length of the series, and the readers get to revisit all the people they’ve fallen in love with over the course of the main books and novellas.
Now, I don’t want to spoil or overstate anything, but if you’ve been waiting for this ending like I have, you won’t be disappointed with the resolution. Bittersweet and beautiful—but how could it have ever been anything else? Grab this book and immerse yourself in this little kingdom one more time. I know this series is going on my re-read list; I just like spending time there so much.
It felt so good to finally read this book. This series has been a labor of love for the author that has been in progress for years (YEARS, I SAY). And those of us who found it early have been waiting with baited breath to see where it would wind up. The ending is suitable and satisfying. I still want more; I still have some questions, but that’s because I just love this world and its characters, and I am a greedy so-and-so. Lucky for all of us, the werewolves are coming back this fall.
