Blurb: Chad Storm’s longtime boyfriend has a Ticket to Ride on a plane out of Chad’s life. But someone decides on a more permanent end to their relationship.
Former lead singer of the rock band Lightning, Chad is working on his come-back album when he finds the body of his ex floating in his swimming pool.
Lieutenant Jack Reeves has never heard of Lightning, but now he has a gruesome murder to solve. The more he learns of Chad, the more intrigued he is, and his protective instincts kick in when Chad begins to get strange phone calls from the dead man.
Jack knows someone is trying to mess with Chad, leading him to think someone close to Chad could have murderous intentions. But his attraction to Chad takes him off the investigation.
Drawn to each other, Chad and Jack begin an affair, but that only brings the killer out into the open.
Review: Lieutenant Jack Reeves is forty-three, confident in his life and job. And, finds himself outdated. The young Detective Ramirez knows just who Chad Storm is, but Jack’s not at all familiar with Chad, or the band Lightning—until Chad catches Jack’s eye. Jack needs to be careful, though. He’s not entirely sure Chad’s not guilty.
Chad is making a change in his life. When Lightning broke up fifteen years ago, he decided to go solo, but the murder of his ex, Mark Walters, has changed Chad’s life. He and Mark were friends from a young age, but eventually, drugs, alcohol and cheating took a toll on their relationship. Chad felt responsible for it all, so he let Mark reside in his home, which makes him feel like a pushover. Chad has many demons. A tragic bus crash and now Mark’s murder leave him with nightmares.
A break-in and some mysterious phone calls and suspicious characters cause Jack to want to protect Chad, so he decides there’s no safer place for Chad than at Jack’s father’s house. Poor Jack… Even his dad knows who Chad is, and they get along great.
Ticket to Ride is a short but intriguing murder mystery. Chad and Jack are made for each other and have a good chemistry. Jack’s dad, Joe, was an added delight with a great sense of humor. I’m just amazed when an author can make a short novella this suspenseful, with solid characters that left me wanting more.
