At a Glance: Fishy Riot has just the right amount of action, danger, mystery and humor. I almost passed this book over because of the title, but I get it now, and I’m so glad I reconsidered.

Review: Taylor Jameson is cranky, and sometimes you have to wonder if it’s his crazy, funny, loving family that makes him so. Taylor and his brother Clayton are very enthusiastic about their jobs, they’ve gotten into some crazy chaos more than once, and when things go south, the whole family gets involved any way they can.

When Taylor’s squad gets the call to protect the rich and elite youth at a political fundraiser on a harbour ferry, they aren’t really excited about it. Taylor knows it’s only for the benefit of Minister Jonathan Salisbury, who needs positive media. While checking out the ferry for any suspicious activity or persons, Taylor wanders below and spies Micha Salisbury, youngest son to the minister. As he’s checking out the other rooms in the captain’s quarters, he comes across the most gorgeous young man he’s ever seen, Sietta Salisbury—who hasn’t been seen in months, and some thought was dead. Taylor’s only been interested in one-night stands so far, but in reality, he would like to find someone who understands him. He and Sietta spend some time talking until Taylor escorts the young man to the upper deck where there’s so much commotion, and the discovery of drugs on the ferry, that Taylor forgets Micah slipped him a thumb drive. When Taylor realizes, finally, what the drive holds, all hell breaks loose and the riot squad goes into action once again.

I have to say I enjoyed Fishy Riot, Lindsey Black’s debut novel. It has just the right amount of action, danger, mystery and humor. Sietta and Taylor are definitely opposites, but they make a perfect connection. The squad has a nice mix of characters, and the storyline also addresses some serious issues in the form of abuse, corruption, and drugs which shouldn’t be taken lightly. I liked the Aussie humor that the author brought to this story, and I absolutely got a kick out of the crazy and funny Jameson family, especially five-year-old Emma, who was a hoot and had the big alpha males wrapped around her finger.

I almost passed this book over because of the title, but I get it now, and I’m so glad I reconsidered. I’m begging for a sequel!
