Guest Post: Forbidden Lust by Grayson Knight

Welcome to author Grayson Knight and the Forbidden Lust blog tour. We’re so pleased to have Grayson dropping in today to chat about writing Erotica.

I have always been curious about writing erotica, but there has always been a shyness that I felt towards it. I have read erotica and enjoyed it, and as an aspiring author I thought it would be a good and enjoyable way to hone my craft. I do write in a couple of different genres that don’t include erotica, but that doesn’t mean to say I treat it with any less respect. I love writing erotica, and even though I only have one short out so far, I do see it becoming an important part of my long term writing career.

It all started in June of 2015 when I emailed an author I am friendly with online, asking for her advice. I had recently been asked to review books for a very successful erotica publishing house and let’s just say my curiosity was more than peaked. The author I spoke to was very excited for me that I had made this choice and that I was looking into it with plenty of research. In essence she told me just to have fun and to go for it. I did go for it, but it took me two years to bite the erotica bullet.

I am the kind of person who loves to learn, and when I find myself interested in a subject or in pursuing something, I will read as much information as I can get my hands on. That is what it is like for me now that I am writing erotica. I always believe that there is always something new to learn, and so far I must have read upwards of 20 books on writing erotica, some of them multiple times. Sometimes reading how to write erotica books is my form of procrastination, but the way I look at it is, at least I am learning something. Well, hopefully I am anyway.

As mentioned earlier it took me a couple of years to finally be brave, and what did it for me was that with erotica it is more than OK to start short, in fact from what I can gather it seems to be preferred. The idea of writing a full 80,000 word or so novel scares the living daylights out of me, so I find that writing erotica is a good way for a scaredy cat like me to learn the ropes.

My debut MM erotic short is called Forbidden Lust. It is all about the idea of wanting what we cannot have, and what we let stop us in our pursuit for those things. At the end of the day it is an erotica short so there is no moral to the story, just plenty of really hot sex, between two really sexy men.

Self-publishing is another aspect of writing that is scary but ultimately very liberating, because if you are a control freak like me, self-publishing allows you full creative control. You set your own targets and goals, and you also set your own definition of success. I have read a couple of articles where some erotica authors claim to be earning upwards of $10,000 dollars a month which in all honesty I am a little bit sceptical of. To be honest, if I could earn a couple extra hundred pounds a month I would consider that a great success. I do eventually want writing to be my full time job, but I firmly believe in keeping your eyes open and your reality checked.

It is a lot of fun, once you get over the nerves and the crippling self-doubt. I am in this for the long haul and hope to build myself a nice little career out of this.

I firmly believe that we should be grateful for every opportunity that is presented to us, and make the most of every opportunity.

Thank you so much to ‘The Novel Approach’ for being part of my first official blog tour, and also thank you for being so kind (and brave) to let me ramble on for a little bit on their wonderful website.

Happy writing and happy reading.

Blurb: Jackson has never felt anything from his mother. All his life she treated him badly and he thought he would never have anything good in his life. That is until Cole came on the scene. Cole was in his early forties, and he was kind, handsome and built from pure muscle. The only problem was he was about to marry Jackson’s mum, but he was all that Jackson could think about.

It was on the night of his eighteenth birthday when the only gift Jackson got was a pendant from Cole that he knew meant that there was something between them. Jackson’s innocence was something that he wanted to offer Cole, but he never knew if that chance would ever appear. For now, he would have to watch from afar and hope that his fantasies would be enough.

Maybe one day he would get a chance at a night with Cole, but a sexual relationship with his stepfather was surely off limits and taboo. Or was it?

Tour-wide Excerpt

On the night of my eighteenth, my mum had gone out partying with her friends and I was alone in my room. I was wearing nothing but my boxers as I stood in front of the mirror lifting my free-weights in an attempt to exercise out my anger. As I watched myself, my green eyes looked back at me from my reflection with determination. I was determined to not let this get me down, and I would go on and eventually make something of myself. There was a knock on my door, and I carried on working out as I shouted.

“Come in.”

The door was already ajar and I watched as it opened and Cole came in and stood awkwardly by the door. He was tall and muscular, and as I watched him in the reflection of my mirror I could see his pecs tense, and his nipples were erect through his tight t-shirt. He was pretty fucking hot.

“Sorry to bother you Jackson, I just wanted to come and see how you were doing.’ He stepped forward and sat on my bed behind me.

I crouched and put my weights on the floor next to my mirror and stood up. I tried to wipe the sweat that was dripping from my blonde hair as I turned to face my future step-father. He looked me up and down and his eyes landed on my toned stomach as he quickly averted his eyes. I smiled at him then.

“It’s OK Cole, you’re not bothering me at all.” Our eyes met, and I swear I felt something spark between us. I licked my dry lips and Cole caught the action. He shifted where he sat as he signalled for me to sit beside him. As I did his weight on the bed made me feel a little flustered, I turned to face him and he was looking at me intensely. His eyes bore into me and my breath hitched in my chest. He was ridiculously sexy and I suddenly felt very exposed sat here in just my tight boxers.
