Blurb: James Morgan: outlaw in a ruthless biker club, the Bastard Legion. Willing to do whatever he must to claw his way to the top of the club’s hierarchy.

Two things stand in the way of his ambitions: his heroin-addicted brother and his bisexuality. In Morgan’s world, his attraction to men is a death sentence, and he has no desire to pursue it… until he tangles with Luc Sinclair.

Luc Sinclair: fellow Bastard Legion biker. Tattoo artist. Rebel who wants out of a club he’s grown to despise.

Luc has a sister he’s protecting from a Legion ex-boyfriend. Saving her makes him a target. Morgan intervenes, and all bets are off. The sex is as fierce and passionate as it is dangerous. But when Morgan’s junkie brother learns of the relationship, he sees a way to advance in the Legion and take out a brother he hates. Their three worlds collide—one is left for dead, another fighting for life, and the bond between them broken.

In a dark and violent world where it’s every man for himself, finding their way back to each other and the only truth they’ve ever found will be a long, hard fight.

Review: James Morgan is an enforcer for the Bastard Legion gang. He owns his own garage and makes a good living, which he is trying to keep quiet. His brother, Steve, deals drugs for the Legions, but is losing his credibility because he is a user. Morgan is controlled, strong, and he intimidates everyone. He also hides a secret.

Luc Sinclair is also a member of the Legions, but he’s had enough. His priority is helping his sister to get away from an abusive ex, who’s a member of the Legions. He’ll do anything to save his sister, face getting beat up, even confront the leader, Neal Garioch, and his second in command, Heller. Luc is even willing to buy his way to freedom because he wants to have a good life, return to college, and open his own tattoo business.

When Morgan runs up on Luc being attacked by his sister’s ex, and other gang members, he saves him. But Morgan finds that Luc isn’t afraid, and he’ll do anything to protect his family—even face Garioch, no matter the outcome.

Morgan and Luc start to make a connection, and Luc knows there are ways for Morgan to get out of the bad environment. But when devious gang members, and Morgan’s brother, start to threaten and harm what’s his, Morgan takes things into his own hands.

Both Morgan and Luc have their own stories as to why they got involved in the Legion. Both also have the desire to find someone they can spend the rest of their lives with, but for Luc and Morgan, freedom from the Legion’s doesn’t come without a price, and one of them will have to sell his soul to Garioch and the Bastard Legion.

B.D. Roca delivers the type of novel I crave. It’s gritty, suspenseful, violent, dark, and offers many emotional and powerful moments between Morgan and Luc. For both Morgan and Luc, family is an issue on different levels, and both have to deal with the turmoil in their own way. The series is set in Australia: Parts one and two are set in the past. Part three is many years later. I felt the way the story flowed just added to the intriguing plot.

The first novella in the City to City series is Happy Birthday. Don’t let the title fool you. It tells the story of Morgan’s nephew Nick, and Jake. As for me, I will be watching out for the next installment in this gritty series.
