Blurb: Big, burly CEO Abe Behr is dismayed to discover someone—possibly a family member—is stealing from Behr Construction, which primarily employs Behr relatives. Abe takes the unprecedented step of hiring an outsider, likeable CPA Jeff Mason, to go over the books and help find the culprit. They are drawn to each other as they talk to workers, including Abe’s two younger brothers and their shifty cousin.

Since he has sacrificed romance all his life to build the business, Abe’s surprised by his feelings for the handsome Jeff. He’s even more shocked when they are confronted by bigotry in the Sierra Nevada foothills community, which is being inundated by gays moving from the San Francisco area. As he and Jeff get closer, Abe must come to grips with coming out to a family and community that aren’t very tolerant. Fortunately, being the head Behr helps him find his footing and grab onto love when it bites him.

Review: A couple of my favorite tropes are “Opposites Attract” and “Boss x Employee”, so color me delighted to come across a quick little short story with both in it, just when I was looking for one. Not to mention that Pat Henshaw writes very sweet little HEAs that always leave me with a smile on my face. Plus, if you’ve never heard him, David Ross is a pretty decent narrator and definitely does justice to Behr Facts.

Abe Behr, owner and CEO of Behr Construction, is in a quandary. Someone has been stealing from the business, and he needs to find out who’s doing it, asap. The problem is that Behr Construction is a family company, and the vast majority of employees are just that, family. So, not only does Abe have to investigate the theft as quietly as possible, he has to come to terms with the implications that a family member is knowingly stealing from the company. In order to keep things hush-hush, Abe has brought on CPA Jeff Mason to help investigate. Abe and Jeff have to work closely with each other while investigating, and one unforeseen side-effect of this is that the more time they spend together, Abe finds himself becoming attracted to Jeff. Unfortunately, homophobia is prevalent not only in the community but in Abe’s family as well, leaving him unsure and a bit confused as to his relationship with Jeff and his sexuality as a whole.

Can Abe come to terms with the fact that he’s gay? How about Abe and Jeff? And, what about the company thief, do our intrepid duo figure out who is stealing from the company? Well, you’ll have to get the book and find out. While you’re at it, you should really get the audiobook as well. David Ross does a nice job lending his voice to Pat Henshaw’s book. So much of everyone’s personalities are brought out even more by David Ross and the way he tells this tale.

My final conclusion? If you’re looking for a sweet little refresher whilst in between books, Behr Facts may just fit that bill.
