Five Romances Featuring Delicious Food
The Remaking of Corbin Wale, my holiday romance, features Alex Barrow, a pastry chef who opens his own bakery. I love to cook and bake, so I had a great time coming up with recipe ideas for Alex to feature in his bakery, and dinners for his chef best friend, Gareth (whose story might be coming your way next year *wink*), to cook. I love reading about food as much as I like writing about it, so here are five of my fave romances featuring fabulous food.

Definitely, Maybe, Yours (Sucre Coeur #1), Lissa Reed
A Seattle based baker with a weakness for damaged people and a habitual playboy find love—but more importantly, BAKED GOODS. This book is lovely and sweet, and will definitely make you want to bake everything on Pinterest. #SorryNotSorry

Sweet, Alysia Constantine
A lonely, grieving baker and a numb accountant slowly find each other through baking. Problems aren’t solved, they’re worked through in beautiful prose. This is a love letter to baking itself, not just its results, and the form reflects this.

Chocolat, Joanne Harris
You’ve probably all seen the movie, but have you read the book? This is the story of a small, conservative French village where everyone knows everyone else—at least, they think they do. When a newcomer sets up a chocolate shop at Lent that celebrates taste and beauty, it unleashes the sensuality of the whole town. Y’all, I don’t even like chocolate and reading this book made me want to eat everything.

Heart, & Misfits & Strays (Urban Soul #1 & 2), Garrett Leigh
Heart begins in a fudge shop and ends in a London restaurant, and the Urban Soul series has all the food, from appetizers to deserts. Garrett Leigh is a chef herself, and her food writing is as delicious and expert as you’d expect from a pro.

Idlewild, Jude Sierra
The food in this tale of Asher, a restaurateur who is trying to keep his gastro pub afloat after the death of his husband, is as dreamy and magical as its prose. Set against the shifting backdrop of a Detroit neighborhood, a new relationship gives Asher a chance to work through grief and see a new future for his business.

About the Book
Last month, Alex Barrow’s whole life imploded—partner, home, job, all gone in forty-eight hours. But sometimes when everything falls apart, better things appear almost like magic. Now, he’s back in his Michigan hometown, finally opening the bakery he’s always dreamed of. But the pleasure of opening day is nothing compared to the lonely and beautiful man who bewitches Alex before he even orders.
Corbin Wale is a weirdo. At least, that’s what he’s heard his whole life. He knows he’s often in a fantasy world, but the things he feels are very real. And so is the reason why he can never, ever be with Alex Barrow. Even if Alex is everything he’s always fantasized about. Even if maybe, just maybe, Corbin is Alex’s fantasy too.
When Corbin begins working at the bakery, he and Alex can’t deny their connection any longer. As the holiday season works its magic, Alex yearns for the man who seems out of reach. But to be with Alex, Corbin will have to challenge every truth he’s ever known. If his holiday risk pays off, two men from different worlds will get the love they’ve always longed for.

About the Author
Roan Parrish lives in Philadelphia where she is gradually attempting to write love stories in every genre.
When not writing, she can usually be found cutting her friends’ hair, meandering through whatever city she’s in while listening to torch songs and melodic death metal, or cooking overly elaborate meals. She loves bonfires, winter beaches, minor chord harmonies, and self-tattooing. One time she may or may not have baked a six-layer chocolate cake and then thrown it out the window in a fit of pique.
She is represented by Courtney Miller-Callihan of Handspun Literary Agency.

I have to say I haven’t read any books that have cooking as a theme, probably since I’m always struggling with my weight and reading about delicious things I can’t have is the worst kind of torture lol

Thanks for the post. Rick R. Reed has a lot of stories that feature food and/or cooking. Annabeth Albert’s Portland Heat series is rather food-centric too.

Congrats, Roan, and thanks for the foodie list. I’ve seen or read some on your list. Also, there is a decent cozy mystery series that includes cooking and lists recipes. Try out the Jesse Ashworth series. – Purple Reader,
