At a Glance: We get a solid HFN in Tournament of Champions which, in my opinion, doesn’t match the intensity of the rest of the series. That bothered me. But all in all, I will say that I totally enjoyed this series, and recommend it.

Review: And so, we have reached the conclusion to an intense love affair. I’m sad. I have looked forward to each new installment, and I’m left with conflicted feelings. What started as two men looking for scening partners (at least on Daniel’s part), developed into a friendship which morphed into something so much more. True to my word in my first review, I went back to book one and read the series from beginning to end before sitting down to write this review of the last installment.

Daniel has come sooooo far. He’s bending. He’s accepting change, change Ryan has influenced in his life. I mean, goodness, they had sex with the clothes still in a heap on the floor. In book one, Daniel would never have been able to get it up if his work clothes were not better taken care of. There is a lightness to Daniel now. The banter between him and Ryan was fun to read, and heartwarming. This last book felt different to the others in the series. The heavy emotional burdens Daniel carries weren’t the obstacles that they may have been at the beginning of the story. He handles meeting sisters and coming out to coworkers with relative aplomb.

There is no kink in this last book, just romance between two men getting to enjoy each other and the first blush of attraction separate from their D/s relationship, which was already established. This book is about the settling in, the quiet assurance that Daniel is beginning to cling to—that Ryan isn’t going anywhere, and that the two men are it for each other.

I think, ultimately, because the books are so short, I needed this ending to be even more intimate with the two men. Instead, I got a play-by-play on a Jeopardy tournament. I needed the “L” word, maybe, even if it was just in Daniel’s mind. We get a solid HFN which, in my opinion, doesn’t match the intensity of the rest of the series. That bothered me. I almost wanted an epilogue, maybe a future book eleven which is set a year later. I’m still waiting for that last penny to drop. But that is just me, and taken as a whole, this ending is perfect for these two men. It brings their relationship full circle and sets them on the path to HEA.

All in all, I will say that I totally enjoyed this series. Daniel and Ryan are intense, complicated, intriguing characters, and I very much so enjoyed their journey. Start with book one and read them all in order—that’s important—but read them. It’s a great series and I totally recommend it.
